shite related stuff to do on iow

gonna be going france via iow in september - revival got sacked off as didnt buy the tickets in time and not going for 1 day

 

done beaulieu and will be going sammy millers in hampshire first

 

anyone recommend places to stay on the island and car and mainly bike related stuff to look at while there??

The Isle of Wight,  I've never been but always wanted a ride on the trains there as it's Victorian locos and stock on the steam railway and 1938 tube stock on the 'mainline'.  No idea if there's anything for petrolheads though.

I'm going over to the Isla du Blanc on the 15th September for five days.

I've been going there since the mid eighties, give or take a few years when we ventured out to the Balearics.

I'm hoping to move there after my retirement. It's lovely there, like stepping back in time.

The best thing is driving on to the ferry and watching the mainland disappear.

I've done the steam railway, which in my opinion is quite expensive for what it is.

The mainline railway from Ryde to Shanklin is what you'd expect from worn out London tube trains really.

Excellent holiday if you have kids, lots of attractions and never too far away.

Never really seen anything to do with motoring though.

Can you still go over on the Hovercraft? That was ace.

Hovercraft still runs every 20mins or so from Southsea but might drop frequency by September.   Bus museum good shout - its worth a poke around.   Most Sundays the local Austin club have a run round the island but that's just a road run....

 

13th/14th September at Newport quay( and Ryde on the Sunday) there is the IOW classic car show, well worth a visit.   We have done this ourselves a few times with the Oxford.  Usually a few rarities there.  

 

Love the IOW and want to live there too.....

 

Most accommodation on the bigger caravan sites is pretty OK, good campsite is Ninham Farm - it has a Morrisons opposite the gate saves taking food with you! 

 

There is an Airstream site if you want to waste money!

 

Have a good time, I have gone there lately in preference to Revival as well, don't know about you but that event has gone from must-do to couldn't care less for me.   Too many profilers......
