I've got a real hankering for a W123 and wanted opinions on this please, is it worth the money?

Doesn't look bad for the price. If you can see stuff bubbling up beyond those wheel arch trims there won't be much left of them.Like a good 90% of them It's got a sunroof so worth looking at the floor carefully, the cassette itself can rot out and the drainage channels too, wreaking havoc as I know only too well!

I reckon it's worth a punt. If it goes horribly wrong, you could break it or sell it to an exporter for at least as much as the starting bid

Rear footwells, inner sills and front bulkhead. I wondered why the engine was noisy in mine. It was because there was a ruddy great hole in the bulkhead! Water leaks find their way to the rear footwells and rot them and the sills out. 

 

If all that checks out ok, it has to be worth a punt.

Front valance is a bit wobbly, and there's a dent in the tailgate. But at that price and mileage it's worth getting if you like it.

I think the estates look good with a few battle scars.  My creepy old uni landlord had a beige one with a saggy arse and looked like a very messy crime had taken place all over the interior.

Watch those rear suspension units too.....As stated above wheelarches will probably have gone AWOL but I really, really loved my 280E.   Buy it!

For me there's summut about the ad wording which would put me off - though he may well be a dealer who knows f-all/is minding his back. They can and do rot absolutely anywhere. But this could be the one which is better than you'd imagine.
