Autoshite hire / Autoshite pool car

I often find myself urgently needing a car when mine are in bits! Joys of a long commute/living middle of nowhere/having a mrs that doesn't trust me with her 07plate shite (I once crashed her car and didn't tell her till years after she sold it)

I wonder if this idea has been banded about before.. But as most of us spanner here quite often it could work! Bit like the hire for a year scheme!

What about purchasing some chod, storing it somewhere conveniently and sharing the costs...

Like co-operative or something

I'm not clued up about any of this stuff! I dreamt it up on the toilet.. Would it work? Would people be interested?

I can make excel spread sheets and even offer a driveway

Pitfalls, prospects and the like all

Welcome

+points for 2cv

I suppose to make it even more community focused we could propose to fix up someone's unfinished project or driveway ornament

Anyway I'm going to finish what I started on the toilet now

We have mooted similar in the past and gone as far as to lend vehicles. There is a legal issue around hire for return that means that if you are going to hire for money you must carry insurance as well as maintain fleet records. However, lending for no fiscal return could be considered.

The concept of a baby sitting circle might work here. Ie we all get a token which we exchange for car rental with other members of the circle. This means to benefit you have to be willing to partake. Anyway..food for thought

It sounds like a good idea! Is there anyway that any profits (unlikely) could go to charity?

I know this kind of idea would help me a lot!! And stop me buying cars for a few weeks and losing money on them

This almost already happens, plenty of cars are bought and sold between us.  It saves an awful lot of messing about with the mouth breathers you often get on ebay when trying to sell a car of this price, WHY NO AIRBAGS, THERES A SPOT OF RUST etc.  And we can concentrate on critiquing the important features; such as "it's not quite beige enough for me, I'd prefer one with front wings made of chicken wire rather than cardboard" and so on.

Some cheap old chod isn't far away from these pages if you want to buy one for yourself, and chances are you can sell it here too when you're bored of it.

Not worth the hassle. Trying to run a car as a collective will be immensely frustrating. Borrowing someone else's motor seems far more sensible on an ad-hoc basis.

Not only do they have the usual 'classic ' suspects, they also have an Autoshite Fleet

Avantime

Turbo R

Cherokee 4.0

Merc estate

Tatty old Galaxy

No mention on site of costs ,safe to assume you could buy all of that list for the price of a year plus one off joining fee.
