I got a call from a friend asking if I'd like this beast, for free! MOT until May, tax just out and an auto GTi no less! bit of a blowy exhaust and a few small rust niggles but otherwise I am sooooo happy!

That. tosh, is going to drive you mad.Whilst deeply envious -I think its going to help send you to an early grave. But -if its working -enjoy it. Nice acquisition. How many have you got now -you're acquiring faster than me.

That is tremendous!I'd be terrified of the impending open wallet surgery I might be subjected to if I owned one though

Well I drove it home last night from Hertfordshire around the M25 and through London and it behaved itself beautifully. The boot is damp and there's a few spots of rust, there is a blow from the front of the exhaust but that's it for niggles, ALL the electrics work well and the Auto box is nice and smooth, you know I will hardly use it and I'll keep it warm so I am hoping it's going to be nice back to me!I have got a lot of cars now, haven't totted them up recently but I'm expecting another later, and tomorrow. I'm now consciously avoiding ebay and classifieds!

They do drive pretty well those GTI autos - they're not hugely quick but they're a very torquey engine so they're relaxing to drive. A bit undergeared for such a big, slow-revving engine IMHO but they still seem to manage 30 to the gallon so can't be that much of a handicap. How's the suspension?

free!! I'm sure a while back you were trying to thin down your collection??

Suspension seems bang on at the mo, I'm wierded out by the strange steering and brakes though!

The chassis is superb, just front wings behind the arches, sill tops ans bubbles on the roof and rear wing, I haven't really seen it in the daylight to be honest!
