Shock, 15 year old car passes MOT with just 2 advisories

I tend to think the MOT test is there to keep battered and abused never maintained cars off the road, which can only be a good thing!

You know the sort people that just drive their cars every day of the year and do little more than stick pez in it !! I think we probably all know at least one of these people, their cars are usually dirty and when they offer you a lift it takes them 2 minutes to clear all the shit off the passanger seat and out the footwell !!

In the sticks here all everyday cars are dirty for most of the year, other than the tourist and millionaire's cars. No indication of maintainence. It's the shiny shit which worries most locals - drivers have little idea of their own or cars' capabilities and are probably serviced* by a main dealer.

It's now VOR awaiting repairs as the voltage regulator has failed on the alternator. Now in a borrowed Mondeo pezzler, which is a very nice car

Those old Felicias are real Skodas from the end of the Soviet era, not the soft modern VW things with electronics and hundreds of sensors, blackboxes and so on.

Are they? I thought they were based on the Polo.

They're a rebodied Favourit with some golf bits thrown in.

They would last for ever mechanically but they seem to rust like hell.

It's temporary replacement, an X reg Mondeo LX is lovely, swmbo has decided that one of those will be it's replacement

Here it is, not long after being collected from having the alternator diode pack & voltage regulator replaced, the puddle underneath is not from it surprisingly, even thought the bottom hose is leaking, and the HG is weeping pretty badly now too. Notice how it needs a wash..Not washed it in months, and it does a hard 400 plus miles a week now too

The alternator rebuild came in at £70 ex VAT, and the alternator belt must have been a bit slack too, as now the PAS seems to be a tad lighter as well
