Slightly leggy xantia for sale * sold *

Hello all,

Just a preliminary post, but my sister and brother in law want to sell their V reg (1999?) 1.8 16v xantia stateside special edition soon. MOT and TAX to November. One family from new ( My Dad and brother in law as keepers). Second car surpluss to requirements.
In Dante Red (I think- metallic red anyway).
157,000 ish.
I drove it to the citroen car club national last year and then to a meeting in warwick and back (200miles) without problems. Probably the furthest it's been in years.

Michelin tyres all round, new battery, ac works, central locking and electric windows ok apart from r/o/s lock which doesn't centralise. Semi suede/SX cloth interior. CD changer in boot doesn't. Lacquer peeling and a few bumper scrapes on the rear - front half of car painted not too long ago. Rear sun shade and brian primmer(CCC) stainless door trims. Original wheel trims and handbooks.

New(ish) clutch and clip (well years ago now, but not too many miles), HP regulator and spheres, cambelt, full service last year and no advisories on the mot (I think).

This year it has mainly been used to go to the allotment and back carrying various tools/vegetables each way. Lee is not too keen on polishing it and leaves that to me for each mot. Last years service included a new temp sensor as the fans were on full all the time. Replacement exhaust and cat, original citroen radio etc, etc.

Anyone interested? It's just south west of oxford. (Dr owner if that makes sod all of a difference - DPhil which is even posher but doesn't necessarily gaurantee knowledgable car ownership!), oh and special two numeral reg. for Mr DW.

Like that the former keeper was a Dphil.

It does pay to be philosophical when you own

A fluid sprung old citroen!

Looks nice, GLWTS

If you've never driven one you'll be pleasantly surprised how nice they are. I was anyway.

I drove one with blocks on the pedals when I was five if that counts?

Hi all,

not sure on money - what do you think it's worth? I will email my BIL and get an idea of what he'd like for it.

Also to be fair, the pics do make it look smarter than it is at the moment - it needs a good wash and polish and the boot lid is peeling a bit more - needs polishing off I think. I like driving it though - very floaty, and it still goes well when you floor it.

It's just south of oxford off the Swindon road.

In the interests of full disclosure - the strut tops seem fine, no visible sill rust and door shut areas look clean, a few bubbles on the n/s/r C pillar area about door window height.

The driver's door mirror was broken by the next door children's football - still adjusts, just a bit floppy.

OK, we have no idea what it's worth - is £500 too much?

Seems fair enough to me. I'd offer it a home (given the plate) if I had any money.

Well hopes and reality are often far apart!

Offers are of course invited. It's not going on ebay or anywhere else apart from CCC website at the moment.

There's not a lot of love for pez Xantias, especially the 1.8

That mileage is high for a pez too...

The only others that I've seen kept beyond that mileage are ones that have had the investement of LPG.... Though I'm sure there are exceptions!

I think Mr B is on the money, scrap value plus the rent in the window unfortunately.

Good cars though .... I've owned 4.

The only benefit of the mileage is that it shows it's been reliable.  It's too good to scrap, but realistically aren't looking for a fortune.

Car take back offer is £125 and there's £100 left of tax. Quite honestly it's a shame to scrap it if someone needs a cheap reliable car, but the insurance renewal is the 4th and he's hoping to get it gone before then so they don't need to pay the cancellation fee (Direct line's is £46 which seems steep to me for doing sod all).

So basically a cheeky offer over £225 for collection this weekend ish would probably be accepted.

PS that car take back site offers seem odd - Thame is giving the £125 which seems fair, but Swindon will only offer £25 which seems more than mean.
