Sunday Spannering

Recommended Posts

Have we decided on a time tomorrow?

Posted

Shall we call it an afternoon meet then?  The weather is currently predicted to be dry.  The seal is in but if anyone wants to lend a bit of muscle to putting the box back on it would be most welcome.

Posted

I'll be in the new van, with some bits for Chaseracer to transport. I should probably put them in the van soon, before I forget them.

I'll think of some things to bring. Then forget them. Anyone going like bicycle shite?

Posted

Bicycle shite is always good,  there's a few here so we can go for a potter to the pub on them :)

Posted

May have to experiment with fitting bike shite in the Pride, will be along between 1:30 and 2:00 as busy till midday in Brum.

Happy to lend under powered amounts of muscle to any job.

Do we have any idea who is taking the welder back for Moog?

The last Sunday Spannering was at Catsinthewelder and was a notable success the details and pictures can be found here http://autoshite.com/topic/17331-midlands-tinkering-the-evidence/

The next Sunday Spannering is planned for laughing at / getting greasy with Chaseracer's Citroen Dyane.

We know the score now

Chaseracer will provide a location, a date and substances of refreshment

Everybody else bring a car (with or without issues), plenty of random chat and a helping hand

if anybody needs specific tools then mention upfront as last weekend an extra trolley jack would have been useful

Right then, chaps - at ease...  Next Sunday is out for me as Musical Offspring is going away to do loud things with the NYO percussion section for the final time.  So, who's up for 'Dyane Resurrection' on August 3rd?

Various libations can be provided and bacon sarnie confidence is high.  I have two trolley jacks :)

Buggerations, I'm booked to work at a music festival with Ms C that weekend :(

Hope it all goes well

For shame, sir!  ;)

How's life going with the 'Cradley Heath Heavy Industries' recumbent?

Posted

I've ridden it to work a few times which was great fun but it's chewed up one of the idler gears.  I have a suitably free one to replace it but I'm re-aligning the chain slightly inboard at the same time to stop it happening again.  Should be working again soon :)

I'm clear on the afternoon, booked till midday on the 3rd. So happy to come and help.

Will this be a fresh battery and easy start type reserection or will there be a prep list to work through?

Posted

Hope so!

The last time it spent half a decade in the garage, it fired pretty much straight up after blinking in the sunlight.  This time, the intention is to be a bit more gentle; oil change, service, grease job, etc.

Posted

Are you aiming to run it before the oil change? If so, hand crank it a few times, then take a low tension coil wire off and spin it on the starter a few times. Get it nice and warm then scald yourself draining the oil. Mind you, the engine in my 2CV sat in a damp shed for ten years. I just dropped some oil down the bores, gently span it by hand, then started it up. Promptly filling the garage with blue smoke.

I am under strict instructions from Mr. Broadhurst...  ;)

Chaseracer

Can you PM me a location for next week's spannering, thanks.

Posted

Righ, I'll be there now. Swapped around a bit of work so next weekend should be free. Famous last words. "Andy, can you just do this coach job over the weekend? I know you haven't had a weekend off in weeks and I know you are doing something but you should just drop everything and come running when we say" etc etc etc mumble rant warble...

Posted

It's still going ahead, right? Weather is supposed to be a bit meh but dry so at least some attempt of spannering/tea drinking/standing around on a drive sucking teeth can be had.

Anyway, is anyone open to hosting next months? It doesn't have to be in the midlands just needs somewhere where spannering could take place if really needed but more importantly, tea can be brewed and drunk preferably with the added benefit of cake, while people stand around and talk shit for a few hours.

Posted

Yep.  Pissing down pro tem, but tomorrow looks OK-ish.  We have tea, bacon, chod and weapons-grade bullshit - WCPBB?

EDIT: Ooh, CAKE. Good plan...

Posted

POSSIBLE BONUS CHODVENTURE!!

A swift 2-mile trip up to the monster-in-law's to fit the idle control valve to the 300E.  This is within a few hundred yards of Hednesford Raceway and I think there's a practice session on, so don't let me get any ideas.

Bacon in fridge, kettle primed, Random BS Generator on standby.  Weather quite pleasant too.

Looking forward to seeing y'all this pm  :)

Dyane out, oil & filter changed, alternator problem diagnosed, induction mod planned - and the garage tidied!  Cheers, Andy & Julian
