Who had that brilliant idea then?

Following Beryls recent paint, I decided to replace her

indicaters. The guys out there with phase1 Mk2s have it easy.

The phase2s are a nightmare!

The wrap around design

obscures the silly spire nut tab things, making it hit and miss when trying to screw the light unit into the wing. At least three times they pinged off the wing.

What fool thought that was a

good idea?

to be fair no but l dont intend to. Luckily you dont have to take the unit ott to change the bulb. You can get to the back of it through the wheel arch

So what other 'design features' do your head in?

changing the alternator on a V6 Cougar is an excercise in tracking down Every extension bar in you socket set,as you need to go in from the n/s wheel arch to get to thing sitting just behind the o/s wheel !!!

Disc handbrakes.

Disc handbrakes.

Scenic electric handbrakes. The cable collapsed on a customers scenic. You can't buy the cable on it's own only the complete electric handbrake 380 odd quid when we ordered it. 4 weeks later it turned up and they tried to charge the new price of 450 to start with. On top of that it has to be coded to the car, half hours labour at the dealer £50 !!!!!! wtf plus vat as well

I think we have done this one again recently. The alternator on 740s which lives in a pit slightly too small to move it into position whilst retaining fingers, under the exhaust manifold. No wonder they moved it on the 940.

All designed in rust traps and anything that involves removing 300 poorly fitted plastic guards before you can actually mend anything.

Auto-adjust anything is usually worse than what went before. Serpentine belts and their automatic tensionsers are often nasty affairs - I look back fondly to the single alternator belt. Most moderns are full of design which I run a mile from.

On a Mk2 transit yeah. Anything else dunno.

Almost any job on the modern Jaguar S-type falls under the "Why the f*** did they do it THAT way?" category. Rear disc pad changes are the only easy job found so far - I'm still putting off the spark plug change that I wanted to do a year ago

Yep - recently done on my Voyager when I fitted new spak plugs.  To be fair, on the 4th gen one that I have now it's not TOO bad but the 1994 2nd gen model I had some time ago was a right bastard.  The rest of the vehicle is really nice to work on - big, spacious, simple (like the Americans it's designed for).

I have this already with the old S-Type.
