Jifflemon Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 Paint an area, test with a wet film gauge. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Wet-Film-Comb-25-3000um-/130960449530?hash=item1e7dd9dffa:g:OYcAAOSwnDZT6wZj Presumably one combs that thing through the applied layer and see which holes get covered? I'll get one of them ordered, but the only drawback is when you come to do inside box sections, where you can't measure.
garbaldy Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 I've never tried this so where is the best place to get it at a good price.
Jifflemon Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 I found the Bay of Evil to be the best priced once delivered was included
inconsistant Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 Consumer advice please!!! I do this every year... try to research which is the best rust prevention treatment stuff for pumping inside my sills, get confused with the conflicting advice and experience, and end up doing nothing because I've missed the mild weather.I'm going to buy one of these asap and some sort of adaptor gun type thing to get right inside the sills, on the basis that any of them have got to be better than doing nothing (again) so which one do I buy and where from please? 1. Waxoyl2. Dinitrol3. Vactan4. Sholtz

Waxoyl2. Dinitrol3. Vactan4. Sholtzold engine oil + diesel if you have a gravel drive , based on the fact you never see a oily thing thats rusty make sure its stopped dripping before using it on the road for the ones you asked about - waxoil i dont like it , doesnt seem to stop existing rust at all , dinitrol not bad , better than waxoil they d a super runny one that should seep in , vactan - depends whats inside the sills now , wont do jack over existing cavity wax , shutz is underseal meant for the outside inconsistant 1
Station Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 In that case, vegetable oil? It's cheaper.
Honey Badger Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 Presumably one combs that thing through the applied layer and see which holes get covered? I'll get one of them ordered, but the only drawback is when you come to do inside box sections, where you can't measure. You just dip it in, no need to drag it. Once you get a feel for brushing it it will probably come quite natural to get the right thickness.

If your going to use Waxoyl save your self the trouble and just piss in the box section after eating a babybel with the wax wrapper on it, it will last longer and do more good. inconsistant 1
inconsistant Posted September 23, 2016 Posted September 23, 2016 Thanks folks, I'm going to order Bilt Hambler Dynax-S50 cavity wax and a spare lance and JFDI. tooSavvy 1
Royale80 Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 I used Vactan last week to do a few plebs of rust on my Senator. I had a look yesterday and it dried a light brownish colour-a bit like rust. Is this normal? Steev
mercrocker Posted February 5, 2017 Author Posted February 5, 2017 This happened to me when I did it in less than ideal temperature/humidity conditions. To be safe, I knocked it back again and re-applied it when warmer and drier (ended up heating up the area). The second go resulted in the required blackness..... Royale80 1
Royale80 Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 Thanks-I think it was a bit cold when applied-if it gets warmer in the week I'll give it another coat. Many thanks again,Steve
DodgeRover Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 I used some the other day for the first time, went black over rust then a wierd blue colour over the not so rusty metal. Dried fine and over coated with synthetic no problem Royale80 1
Royale80 Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 I splashed a bit of Bilt Hamber Hydrate 80 over it-will see how it looks tomorrow! Steve
mat_the_cat Posted February 5, 2017 Posted February 5, 2017 I do this every year... try to research which is the best rust prevention treatment stuff for pumping inside my sills Interesting test of a few cavity waxes - OK, the study is clearly funded by BH but I would doubt that a credible research organisation would fiddle the results to favour the customer. I would suspect that BH simply wouldn't publicise the study if it didn't do them any favours! http://www.bilthamber.com/media/downloads/PG-BH13-001.pdf Royale80 1
Tickman Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 That study is quite well done from what I can see, also happy to see that S50 comes out on top as I have some being delivered soon! Royale80 and rainagain 2
