Autoshite Motorcycle Chod Charity Fund raising Spectacular!

Dearest fellow Autoshitters,

On the 21st June 2014, myself and some like minded fools, sorry Motorcyclists from the Performance Bikes Magazine Forum are participating in a daft event to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

In a nutshell, spend no more than £300 for a motorbike, bodge it into a legal condition (of sorts) and ride 900 odd miles in 24 hours non stop* from John O Groats to Lands End, on A & B roads only.......

*except for the odd fuel and wee/dump stop obviously!

Daft/Stupid/wreckless? Oh yes but raising money for Cancer research is massively important to me personally having lost my youngest son Oliver to the big C in 2012.

My chod of choice is a tired old Suzuki GS500e twin, vintage 1993, a genuine garage find where she has lain unloved for 10 years, the dust alone was enough to cause breathing difficulties!

To donate, please use either my link or by Text for the yoof amongst us....

OR by Text , type 'OLLY99 £1' and send to 70070  (You can insert 2,3,4,5 or £10 donations if feeling flush!)

Cheers all

Replacing lol!

Carbs, fuel tap, rear shock (that has damping), tank rubbers, clutch plates and possibly a rectifier! - What have you got pal?

Posted

Probs just the rectifier out of that lot, but I'll have a look.

The carbs are a pain on those 'cause the diaphragms leak air.

My shitter cost £205, budget is close to £290 so fingers crossed she goes through the MOT on Wednesday without any major dramas!

So quick update, my shitter has grown two more cylinders and 400cc. Lured by the luxury of a barge with a fairing for the 900 mile challenge, I relented and stumped up £250......

BTW a big thankyou for those who have donated, great stuff thankyou!  :-P

Anyway back to this, may I introduce Blunderbus......

Don't be fooled, its held together with used cotton buds and spittle.

Been stood for 5 years, now rebuilt with a fresh coat of rattlecan black and Ford Venetian red.

Bar the slow puncture on the rear :-( , gonna put it in for an MOT this week, fingers crossed!

I've bought a lot worse for a lot more. That (RF init?) should do the job no drama.

It was okay, in fact pretty good after I had rebuilt the thing. Sadly my eye is always turned when something better* and faster** comes along.....

*Questionable

**Definitely!

will you be running some sort of tracker so shiters can follow progress or even drive out to support you on your travels?

this is what 3 nutters members of npoc did when they drove a similar journey over a weekend for charity- i for one drove out and convoyed with them down the M6 when they reached my area

Wish I had my licence, my suzuki rf also cost £250 but it wasn't held together with string, well the seized rear caliper was removed and hanging up on some when picked it up lol other than that, most stuff was cosmetic, sign up to the rfoc I'm sure there would be a few supporters on there and you could probably move the bike on when you've finished with it quite easily.

We used to do similar, back in the day, before 'sponsorship - just for the 'craick'.

Each year a new challenge (£100 sportscars, 1.6L's, micros etc) but perhaps my finest was the C90 (or similar) challenge to le Mans, for the 24 hr race.

'Winner' got a free weekend..

I won that one because I kept the original tartan panniers & bicycle trailer!.

We all looked ridiculous; grossly overlooked with tents, camping gear, spares, beer & baguettes everywhere  -but the plus side was storage inside the tent , for lengthy repairs- prior to the return trip.

Ah! The stupity of the young.  Happy days

Good luck with the trip. Hope its not too onerous.
