I know where there's a Proton in a scrapyard which is relatively untouched, if that's any good to you? Place is super cheap.

hi Hirst - yes please  If you could let me have the details that would be great.

I'm planning to get some side by side shots of em both this weekend after i've given the gold one a freshen up.

Cheers for the comments :)

I still have fond memories of the gold one, it leaves me yearning for a manual estate to transplant my Colt GTi engine into. I reckon that would be fab :)

Think it's time for an update on this thread as i've been rather lacking recently in the rebuilding of tat ..

Basically the gold one is still going strong - It's done about 54,000 now, I did try selling it on ebay last year but the winner never contacted me and I coudn't be arsed relisting it. But I do need to make a concerted effort to sell it (or do I !!) The car just goes and goes and has been the most reliable car I've had (touch wood) When I did decide to sell I tarted it up a bit and to be honest it looked great. I'd still sell it though so if anyone is interested get in touch..

Onto other cars, after I bought the white Lancer I was offered another for a case of beer..

This one

That car was in a poor way but it still made the very long journey home and was sadly broken up but it did yeid some very good spares for the other 2 so it wasn't all in vane..

I then started sourcing parts for the white one D47 so that I could put this back into service. I managed to source an excellant n/s/f wing off the breaker (and a good n/s/f door) o/s mirror and a few other bits. All needed to finish D47 off. The 'E' reg white one was then weighed in and I effectively got my money back for the petrol etc..

D47 was laid up in a lock up and it's been sat there for over a year, I'd bought a brand new Mitsubishi wing from the local dealer (£70) and took the wings and the mirror to a local bodyshop and asked if they would paint them for me. I can paint myself but time is so against me at the moment it was easier to get a favour done ;-) I picked the painted parts up just before Christmas and I finally got round to starting work on the car this weekend.

So this is how it looked after been locked away for a good few months, I did take the bumper off a while ago as I started to repair that (dont have any pics of that)

This is D47 - parked up after the MOT rang out

It looked a little sorry for itself and the n/s/f tyre was flat and the car wouldn't start, an overnight boost of the battery and it was started no issues :-)

So this is what the wing looked like

I unbolted the wing and everything was fine underneath

all very soild which was good news. I have no power at this lock up so I couldn't do any more to inner wing but I did have an aerosol of wax which I sprayed round the joins. I'll proper fill it with wax when I get it back on the road.

New wing fitted and I was very pleased with the colour match and fit

I then spun it round and started on the n/s

The flat tyre - wheels dont look great either - ideas ??

Lot of corrosion on inside of wing so glad I've got a new wing ready to go on

Inner wings on n/s spot on again

Noticed n/s leg had slight damage and backing beam bent but I have spare from the one I broke up

And the reason why I needed the other door - this would repair but as the door on the 'e' reg one was spot (it was the only door on the whole car that was salvagable) so that will be going on this next job..

So thats where I'm at - I had to pick t'other half up from Dewsbury then so my time at garage was over.
