My first car was 216 vdp. All downhill since then. Loved that car.

My dad is looking for a 213 (honest), he will buy it off you if you ever come to selling it. He has had two (both of which were handed down to me). You can put a Type R engine into the 213 with a little bit of work*.

He has a Mondeo Diesel which is miserable.

I strongly suspect that, rust aside, these were one of the best small family cars you could buy in the eighties.  My parents bought a low mileage metallic blue 1986 216SE in about 1993 which was much loved but by 1995 it was as rotten as a pear with gaping holes in the A pillars and boot frame - as a result it also let in water and therefore stank of mouldy carpet and cheap air fresheners so it was traded in for a brand new 111i.  Remarkably C93 FTA survived another four years after that according to the DVLA.

Good to see this one escape the rot monster for now, I was hoping someone on here would rescue it from the station car park.

I remember seeing the doors on one of these rot on the inside, like in the car, not the outer panel but the inner one.

You have done well, very rare indeed.  And that colour is so period.

These things are so extraordinarily rust-prone its not even funny

As others have said, they go in the most peculiar places. I seeing loads of these with grotty scabs high up on the doors, on the frame bit above the mirrors!

Very nice. Always had a soft spot for the SD3. Looked into buying one in 1997 to be car number 2. Wish I did hang on for a 213 instead of the shitty Escort I ended up buying! I see that this 213 has something my 2003 Almera lacks - something I would have found useful: a remote tailgate release!

In the late 80s my mum's friend had a blue 216 VDP (C323 BEX) which was lovely. Was replaced by an F reg Honda Accord.

A few years later my sister bought an E reg 216 VDP which sadly wasn't kept for long. My dad almost bought it to replace for the MG Maestro 1600 (a perfect replacement imo) however he bought a Carlton 2.2i CD.

My gold one had a big, 2 inch rust hole in the top corner on the back above the lights - it was a place that in theory, should never rust. It was like getting an STD on your knee.

My dad bought it in 1998 - it was scrapped due to rust in 2002. He then bought a really nice blue one in 2005 - it had no rust, and the engine was excellent. My brother's bird borrowed it, and the water pump went. He tried to change it with the belt and didn't time it up properly. I think he actually just put the belt back on, like an alternator belt. Another one to the scrap yard.

The engines were amazing. So quiet and smooth.

I went on the internet, and I found this. (yes, get the anti-corrosion wax out!)
