Insane Tyre Distortion

Recommended Posts

I tend to buy new tyres only, often half decent makes (Toyo, Hankook, Falken, Avon) but I get my money's worth out of them. If I sell a car cheap or scrap it, I keep the new treads for later use. They are the only part worns I ever fit as I know where they've come from. It's not unusual for me to swap the same set of tyres onto three different cars. Fortunately I have plenty of space to store them when not in use. It helps that most of may cars wear 13 or 14 inch rubber and in not too many different sizes.

Maybe one for the Stupid Question Amnesty and a little o/t but just out of interest where the fook do all these part worns come from? These are about a dozen places in Leeds selling them. They all cant be coming off crashed cars or scrappers can they? Are there millions of people just replacing their tyres whilst they are still good? Who scraps a car with nearly new tyres on?

Nope that was what was left of the tread delaminating from the carcass. I couldn't see the state of the tyres on the road wheels but I suspect they weren't much better.

Various countries have various tread depth laws and some countries won't allow repairs. Also in Britain you can (or could) repair sidewalls by vulcanising patches on and in many other countries you can't.

ive used part worns for a few years on my Cortina mainly because they were the magic price free but never had a problem and I use part worns on the range rover because £30 is a bit different to £80 for budget new

to add to my post I once bought a pair of budget new ones for a mini I had years ago they were the worst tyres id ever had virtually no grip in the wet

Ive never bought a new tyre. Ever.

I find it cheaper to just buy 4 used wheels with meat from ebay or forum members.

No problems to report thus far.

I paid Kwik Fit to fit four tyres to my alloy wheels on a Sunday for nearly 60 quid (!) on my MR2.

The tyres stayed up for their entire life, and they even put chrome valve stem and caps (which were promptly stolen on the Woodchurch estate).
