Car insurance poser....

Can you get other people insured on cars? I want to give a family member one of my motors and wouldn't mind insuring it for them into the bargain.

The trouble is I don't want them to know about it, but have no idea if they have any no claims bonus, accidents or convictions etc. Is it possible or just plain undoable?

Undoable I'd say. They ask stuff I don't even know about myself, so I don't think it would be possible to do it for somebody else. It's stupid because they do know all the answers, I think they just ask to try and catch you out. I can't remember why (I think it was in the course of a claim), but I saw the information my insurance company had on me a few years ago and it included a claim I'd made about 12 years and several changes of address earlier.

Why not get some prices of a comparison site using a few different scenarios to see if the prices are affordable, and give them the car with gift certificate to sort out insurance?

That is a very sensible answer. Wish I'd thought of it.

I didn't know you could do that, cheers.

A few crafty conversations will sort that.

"Did you see that thing on TV about how you can save up to 80% with 7 years NCB - how many years do you have now?"

"I saw summat in the paper about how the accident rate is at the lowest ever. Have you had any accidents in the past three years and if so, who would you say was at fault and what was the total claim value?"

"Fucking hell, Mrs Jones up at number 37 has just walked past wearing a wig! She looks a right state! By the way, have you got any convictions (motoring or otherwise) in the past 5 years?"
