Moggy Minor mota needed

My mate Dominique, (a Frog, in Frogland) has lunched his 948cc engine comprehensively -and has asked me to source a replacement.

Hence, I am enquiring here if anyone has a known good 948 or 1098 combo, for sale at a sensible price?

His previous experiences with this nice lil Minor aren't great -not least the seemingly paint splash refurb supplied by the last UK based  professional 'reconditioner'.    Lasted 400 miles, & its proper borked..  I was NOT involved with any of that...

So, this time he's asked me, & the hunt starts today.

If you know of a good un, preferably in the south (although shifting it down isn't a major issue) -please get in touch.    I'm on t'continent right now, but will be heading UKwards soon(ish),

Ta muchly.

Sorry if you've already tried/thought of this place, but it's a very helpful forum and there's usually loads of parts for sale...

Thanks chaps.

I'd prefer something a little more 'southerly', cos I have trouble driving any sort of distance.

Also waiting for Dom (the recipient) to confirm his budget.

Cheers though

If going 1098, it really does make sense to fit a stronger 1098 gearbox too. Or he'll just end up with a lunched gearbox next...

Agreed. We have had that conversation ,but he listened to a local expert last time -and now has 2 borked motors.

He's brill with 2 cv's -knows nowt about Minors.  I keep trying....

Are they the same engines that Mini owners rip out?

If so it might be worth going down that route.

No, different engines.

I'll keep em peeled, does it need to be a minter or will something that needs rebuilding be OK?

Issigonis was told he had to use the A35/Minor engine in the Mini, so he changed pretty much everything south of the cylinder head. He wasn't very good at doing what he was told.
