Cheapest Classic Car Insurance

I wonder if someone could give me some advice....

I've just phoned up my insurance company (AA) about transferring my insurance over from my old winter car to my Audi Cabriolet for the summer months as I've just sorn my old car and have been informed that they can't insure me on the cabriolet as it's too old (1993)..

So I was thinking that the cheapest alternative would be to put classic car insurance on the Cabriolet and leave the other car sorned for the summer months but leave it still insured as I believe to have classic car insurance you still need another car insured..

Would anyone know where's the cheapest place to get classic car insurance...plus would it be legal to have the other car sorned but insured to get the classic policy...

I will only be doing about 3000 miles in the car this year..

Money supermarket includes flux direct and Lancaster so worth trying there. It's fine having a car on sorn and insured

I had no problems and a good price with Towergate through Adrian Flux, need pics as proof of condition etc. I've seen folk on forums slagging of A.F. but I had no problems, though I didn't claim either.

AA themselves are one of the few (only?) classic insurance companies that will give you a sensible instant online quote. I don't know if they are cheap but at least you will get a ballpark figure for others to beat.

BTW, you don't have to have another car insured to get classic insurance. I ran a Golf GTI and then an E36 both on classic as my only cars.

I was with the AA but there cheapest price was £290 and my old policy had to be cancelled and restarted as my Cabriolet was to old apparently on my existing policy..

In the end I cancelled my car insurance completely and sorned my winter car and just took out a new standard insurance policy with Adrian Flux..

I ended up getting full comp with windscreen and lost key cover for £198 which didn't seem that bad,

I could of got a years insurance £20 cheaper elsewhere but I didn't think it was a bad deal in the end...

Thanks for all the help..

Give Classic Line a ring. They're only a small outfit and very nice to deal with, I've been with them for a few years now and am very happy - being small they know their market and there are no call centres or phone ques to deal with.

My fiat and 2CV are with footman james, about £130 agreed value etc for the 2cv and £180 for the x1/9 (both valued about £4500). I think you can get "laid up" insurance to cover your car when it's in the garage for the winter or being restored (ie on sorn). The merc is with Aviva on what they call a "home and driver's club" gold policy- no age limit though and includes full eu wide breakdown cover.

All your meerkats are belong to us.

It's all about Brian now.

Not heard from go compare for a while now, hopefully this means the impostor of an opera singer has also gone away, far away.

After getting the insurance I got a cheaper quote via go compare so I phoned up Adrian Flux and informed them that I was given a quote elsewhere for £143.00 and wished to use the cooling off period to cancel the insurance..

So Adrian Flux adjusted the insurance quote from £198 down to £123 so I really can't complain at that :)

They told me that they would debit my card back with £75 next week...

As for my winter hack I won't bother with insuring it as I can't see anyone taking it off the drive..
