spike60 Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 How long does a SORN last now? As the owner of various shaky campers and sports cars I've used this in winter time and thought it lasted a year or until you renewed the tax, though I think it doesn't now need yearly renewal. In October last year I sold a car taxed until 31/12/2013 and tested 16/12/13 but when I look on the DVLA site it says SORN expired, date of liability 11/1/14.How has it got an expired SORN 3 months after I sold it or am being particularly dumb?
vulgalour Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 I thought they'd reverted it to a forever status because of how much extra work the annual renewal had generated for the DVLA.
Felly Magic Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 Haven't they done summat sneaky that if you flog summat on SORN, the new owner has to re-declare it SORN?
spike60 Posted January 25, 2014 Author Posted January 25, 2014 I didn't sell the car SORN'ed, it was taxed and test but 3 months later is shown as having an expired SORN. The car was registered in my name and I'd owned it for a couple of years when I sold it. Surely if the new owner SORN'ed it wouldn't run out in 3 months?
Justin Case Posted January 25, 2014 Posted January 25, 2014 I Sorned mine at the end of October; the DVLA records just say 'SORN in place' without any date given. HTH
Pillock Posted January 25, 2014 Posted January 25, 2014 Sounds like the new owner cashed the tax in and sold the car on having SORNed it, which expired when the owner changed. spike60 1
