so you cant run a classic or other higher polluting vehicles if you live within the red stripe :shock:

Would I get in with my LPG fired CX? It's certified for safety but there was no emissions reading taken - I couldn't prove it has low emissions (though I can actually run the engine in a closed garage without keeling over! - nearly happened running for 2mins on petrol once..)

No, LEZ (lol!) only affects at present big stuff over 3.5 tonnes, so basically anything bigger than a transit/sprinter. Later, it will affect 'large vans' from 1.2 tonnes to 3.5T as well. Though what a 'large van' is, exactly, as I'll wager almost all newish car derived vans are lardy enough to be over that limit. It's a load of old horse droppings really.

Just visited their severe little site, seems Biodiesel is NOT deemed acceptable and LPG is OK ONLY if it's a commercial vehicle.WTFI like their Q&A answers on "what if my vehicle doesn't meet the criteria"- change the engine for a greener one!- get a new car (of course this is the key thing ) -add pollution abatement equipment (such as what?) Not a good thing for shiters in London

What? It takes ten days for VOSA to notify TfL's computers that you've spunked four grand on meeting the required emission levels? What are they doing - posting a floppy disk to London once a week?

From the wording of that article you can look forward to a £200 charge if you enter the LEZ (fnaar fnaar) before they're aware that you're compliant (even though you have the emissions cert already).

Bullshit. If the cops can check your insurance details in real time using ANPR, surely the chimps who run London can do the the same with your emissions data.

More than likely some type of ticker-tape via pigeon....

London is a shit hole and this just gives me yet another great reason to steer well clear of it.Them extending it beyond the M25 at Havering seems like a stupid move. So if you want to drive your smokey old truck from the M11 to the M20 you have to pay £200 or go round the M25 anti clockwise? Wow, that's going to cut pollution.

My vehicle is historic - does that mean it is exempt from the Low Emission Zone (LEZ)?

There is an exemption for all vehicles that are constructed before 1 January 1973, regardless of whether they are used commercially or for private use.

So, buy a pre 73 car, waz in a perkins prima and sit on London Bridge belching out fumes all day. Im also looking to see if blue badge holders are exempt (as they are from the congestion charge).

Does the M25 not cut through the zone rather than being part of it? A bit like the inner ring road in Central London that after the western expansion of the C-zone has chargable bits either side, and is now inavariably TOTAL GRIDLOCK

Does anyone know if it acutally includes the M25? It looks like it does, but I just assumed it wouldn't as it doesn't make any sense, as above.Once went down to London to get a car, what a nightmare. Nowadays I just pretend that once you get to around Stevenage, the M1 just goes straight into the sea.

The Low Emission Zone (LEZ) covers most of Greater London. All roads (including those at Heathrow and the M1 and M4 motorways) fall within the zone. However, the M25 motorway is not included (even where it passes within the boundary

Utter utter bollock brained fucking hairy aunt fanny madness

Im soory, but if Manc bring in congestion charging too Im seriously giving thought to moving up to Edinburgh (despite the fact that when a man tires of Edinburgh it usually means he has been to the Monument and the castle and is thinking about sodding off back to Manc where there is plenty to see and do). Everywhere south of Bolton at that point might as well be pushed into the sea.:evil::evil: I'll just go over here and bend over this barrel whilst Gordon & his mates stick it up my arse shall I?

You'd be doing well to get to stevenage on the M1....

This is a joke really, think of all the cadet/scouts/chuch groups etc with minibuses within the M25? Motorhome sir? Landrover 109 station wagens? A tax on the poor. Hirst round havering you can get on and off the M25, but its pretty tight to where you can go, In upminster there are warning sides of its start either side of ploughed fields :roll:

The LEZ is one reason I had to wait for hours for a tow when the Hillman played up a few weekds ago. The company the AA sent out to me couldn't send me the first available truck as it wasn't compliant. Arse.It currently affects only diesel vehicles - don't know if that will still be the case when it includes all the smaller vans. But yes, pre '73 are exempt so all tose wiching to haul tat should really get a tat hauler....

No LEZ, no CC, next to no speed cameras or traffic cops and virtually no traffic jams ever. Lincolnshire is just like living in England was 20 years ago.

Bring back the commer van - our scout commer van was bloody ace - aga9in , but a pre 73 example, shoehorn in the dirtyest diesel you can and hey presto an economical scout lugabout exempy from this bloody stealth tax, you know its not often I get angry, and hell i live miles away from "the smoke" but I really want to put a brick through someones window right now (Boris's?) over this. But i suspect a stiffly worded email is about as bad as its going to get.

Take a trip to Barton Vasey and see the yokels on their horse and cart!

The LEZZA thing is probably what the C-charge was supposed to be. The congestion charge is utter bollocks really... Lets face it, if I am going through London, do I (a) stump the 8 quid and arrive in good time or (b)waste 2 hours sat on the road skirting it. Seriously, it's that much of a difference, and my time is worth more than £4 an hour.

Remember folks - it's your country and you can make changes....

Can you? Not when every single electable smarm-twunt is on the 'environment' bandwagon you can't.

Every single Scout/Cadet minibus I've ever been on (admittedly a good few years ago) has been an ancient petrol-powered Ford, Rootes or BL job.So I can foresee demand going up for petrol-powered vehicles in these classes...or apply a "whack a Pinto-or-Cologne-V6 in it" strategy like the banger boys do to get around the rules?

I agree. Expect prices of 7-series Volvo's to soar as every tradesman bins his transit...

What winds me up more is that the "powers that be" rarely seem to consider things on an individual basis - that old D-reg truck going into London could be delivering produce from a farm in a nearby county, but will get hit with charges for being a polluting vehicle unless they pull out some money and get a new truck, which they may not be able to afford and certainly don't need, as the truck they have doesn't do many miles and has loads of life left in it. However, a newer truck delivering the same kind of produce from some large corporation much further away will be exempt from the charges, even though it produces more pollution overall on account of it taking the same sorts of goods a considerably longer distance.

And the Western extension to the C charge zone was given a resounding "NO" by public consultation but we got lumped with it anyway. :x

Has it been said if/when vans will be included in this bollocks?I drive an old SWB Transit diesel most of the time and my parents live in Bexley, which for some reason is INSIDE the LEZ zone by the looks of that map... What am I supposed to do? Park it a mile away and walk across the (very vague) boundary?
