SOLD - Ford Transit 2.5 DI with added horn!

For sale is the Ex cavcraft Transit.

It is a Ford Transit 2.5 DI (not banana engine)

MOT till End July and Tax till end of Jan.

Van has got decent tyres and starts first time every time.  The back is lined with Ply and has a half height wood barrier just behind the front seats.

Under the bonnet it has twin batteries and that essential upgrade of Air horns for extra fun factor. nothing quite like a good honk to get the honies flocking. It has got two spare wheels with it and also the original ford radio fitted that works.

Runs really well, I used it to move from Scotland to Accrington so I did a fair few miles in it. Happily sit at 70mph on motorway and was returning fairly good MPG.

Both rear arches are a bit frilly and so are the bottom of the back doors. Back box is blowing. Only issue I had was once it didn’t start. It turned out it was a loose battery connection which a bit of sandpaper and Vaseline cured.

Overall it is a solid transit that will do its duties with complaint.

Location is Accrington and Price is £750 but can do a Shiters discount of course :-)

Moving to Accrington from Scotland must have been traumatic to say the least..... I would advise keeping the van for a few days until you decide to actually move back!

there was a guy on the ford transit forum wailing there were no more good Mk5s left. Shall I pass it on?

Thank would be great Fred. Not sure it will be around for long as already had two offers through Gumtree.

Accrington for the forseeable.. :-)

Brilliant van. Driven shit loads of these over t years and can honestly say that mechanically it's about as good as you'll ever get.

Done!

A sensible option if moving house on a budgie. Buy a van, move house and then flog van afterwards.

For extra shite points, buy van, live in van.

End.

That high quality air horn mounting system definitely adds value.

Done this three times now. Makes much more sense than hiring van and running around making sure it gets back on time etc. Highly recommend it :-)

Been on gumtree and had some decent offers. Whenever I have accepted them the people disappear into thin air. The only real ones seem to want to swap my Transit shaped cow for some magic beans ...

Reduced AS price to £600

Have some more pics

"LOL!"

What are these like on the old 'MPGery'? I've always wanted a Transit. Also, would I be slashing my wrists if I were to do 250 miles a week in it?

Posted

Not your wrists but your eardrums might take a battering! Empty it is a boomy old thing, but when full it quietens down. I did think about extending the bulk head as I reckon that would keep 70% of the noise out.

MPG wise I was getting mid 30's loaded and high 30's empty.

Posted

Yep, my dad had an ex BT J reg SWB and the bulkhead/racking etc really cut the booming down. Bloody awesome van

All I know it is something I get asked .. normally by those tonks offering magic beans. Dont think it has got anything to do with a turbo. Well unless Cavcraft kept it to strap to another of his fleet :-)

Posted

Banana engine - 2.5 non turbo. Note the inlet manifold which looks nothing like a bunch of bananas (which is why it's called 'A Banana Engine').

Non Banana engine - with plenum shaped like a bunch of bananas.

Same thing with GM Isuzu engines in Astras/Cavaliers. Some were turbo, some weren't.

That 'non-banana' engine (pictured) is from the spazzy new shape (2000 onwards) Transits.

Station: you should buy this van mechanically it's brilliant. Another bonus is that you can use a bungee cord to keep the SLD open then shout abuse through it at people who beep the horn at you.

Transit in non ripped to shit drivers seat shocker.

P.S I don't like nanas as they make me feel inferior so think this engine is the best.

Missus got the hump this morning because it hasnt sold in about 2 seconds, so now on ebay.

Open to semi insulting offers  ..

Sold is good. The other mob were no doubt messers.

I'd like to think this has gone to someone who will patch it up, just like I will with mine, one day...

Was a guy who had his van nicked on wednesday. As decorator he couldn't work without it, so don't feel as bad.
