Junkman's Mitsubishite - alive and kicking

I'd say it is. You know the feeling when you know you bought the right car, all family members love it, and the car appears to be happy to be with you?

I mean, a car has a soul after all, unless it's this newfangled tosh.

Looking at the front of it, I'd say it has soul, personality and style.

Which is a lot more than most of my human family can muster between them.

You mean Green Hornet's chauffeur?

Oh ffs. What they recently did to some Imperials makes me want to re-introduce capital punishment.

Do the valve clearances - I bet the inlets are all tight....

6' and 10' hot iirc.

use a a genuine or good quality oil filter - they have a drain valve fitted.

Loved those as an apprentice.

Replacing the rocker cover gasket led to even more oil spillage. It left a Prince Williams Sund everywhere it stood for a few minutes.

I took off the rocker cover yet again and the new gasket was split in two positions (don't ask).

Thanks God I kept the old one, which now went back in. This somehow did the trick and proves yet again, that the newfangled tosh is all rubbish.

I have been out with the Wishiwashi Smith & Wesson today.

I drive it only occasionally, 99% of the time, it's driven by the Junkwoman.

Remember when I wrote that it struggled to reach 50 when I picked it up?

Originally sold on the Isle of Wight, then in SE London, it probably never exceeded 23mph in its life before we go it.

Well, in our ownership, a considerable amount of carbon soot seems to have been burned off the valves.

So much so, that it now has a tickover of 2000 rpm, which evidently escaped the Junkwoman entirely.

I will take care of this tomorrow.

SodMoT is coming up next week.

So far the Mitsubishite gave flawless service, which is a tad unromantic.

However, I now urgently need a fog light lens. Seriously.

Does anybody have one, know of one, or has heard of one?

Free admission to Chodmolestley on 31st for whoever comes up with the right lead!

It'll pass with that foglight lens if you repair it. There's only a little bit missing, just cut the broken bit off and glue in a bit of black plastic to secure it.

The other option is that is you have two bulbs per side for the rear lamp with the outer ones having a dual filament bulb for the stop light, find a dual filament bulb holder and convert either the inner right bulb or both of the inner bulbs to dual filament and wire the 21 watt side up to the fog light feed. I've done this on my 1981 Celica as it had a stupid bolt on type originally. My MOT man is happy with the set up.

Almost Pass Shocker!

Only failed on the anti sway bar bushes.

What a shame, now I have to put up with it for another year.

Now I won't be able to convince the Junkwoman of the necessity to acquire an R16 for another year.

No, I sent them back today.

The garage ordered a set of drop links, and the correct bushes were included in the pack,

without this being mentioned in the parts description, or on the package.

It's all not cricket anymore.

No, no, this just buys you 12 months to find the perfect R16.

Note glimpse of new Neighbourshite in background. I think it's a Hyundai of some sort.

Plates are courtesy of Dugong. Many, many thanks again!

Since the car turns out to be better than I hoped for, I'm now contemplating a few improvements.

- Re-attach the rub strip on the driver's door

- I already ordered a bottle of linseed oil for the bumpers bumbers.

- Maybe I should no longer ignore the cambelt change interval?

- Adjust the tappets.

- Finally fix the oil leak.

- Have the rear arches sorted.

- See whether Dugong can source some daft wheels from the Pacific Theatre.
