DVee8 Posted October 27, 2016 Posted October 27, 2016 I put this one in the ebay tat thread last week from faceboob they want £250 for it
sporty-shite Posted October 27, 2016 Posted October 27, 2016 Hmm VAG Tacho. I've been looking into this lately as I've got a set of Bora Sport clocks to go into a GTI - so need coding to match the SKC. I also want to enable the miles to empty display on my Golf (which isn't a GTI or a diesel) So, if you buy VAG Tacho, Chris, let me know! You have a Golf? What happened? Lacquer Peel 1
Ghosty Posted October 27, 2016 Posted October 27, 2016 As is probably known, Bora = Golf plus boot and different front end (interchangeable with the Golf if you're a dubbermong).Boras seem to be often better kept than Golfs. Also, Bora 2.0 = Golf 2.0 GTi. Old Man always used to go on about MkIV Golfs lunching gearboxes, but I've no idea if there's anything behind his claims as we've never actually had a Golf.
Pete-M Posted October 27, 2016 Posted October 27, 2016 You have a Golf? What happened?V6 4motion with all the best bits. sporty-shite 1
sporty-shite Posted October 27, 2016 Posted October 27, 2016 V6 4motion with all the best bits. That's more like it. How well do they go?
Mr_Bo11ox Posted October 27, 2016 Posted October 27, 2016 Carlo I reckon if you get one of these you'll be sick of its rubbish ride and wooden handling after 72hours. r.welfare and Lacquer Peel 2
binhoker668 Posted October 27, 2016 Posted October 27, 2016 I dunno like - I've gone from Xantia to Synergie (to public transport) and am loving the handling of the Golf. Feels a lot more connected with the road and car. Less vague. Which I prefer. I also like early Genesis and Discharge though.
binhoker668 Posted October 27, 2016 Posted October 27, 2016 Also, it's not even been 24 hours yet. I'll get back to you. Dave_Q 1

I believe the box in the 1.4 is not known to be particularly strong. MkV Golfs on the 6-speeds have a habit of lunching themselves too.
Pete-M Posted October 27, 2016 Posted October 27, 2016 That's more like it. How well do they go?It's alright. It's got Konis, uprated anti roll bars and a few other bits. Probably 225ish bhp, and with the tweaked suspension it isn't a wallowing boat like they were standard, it's quite well tied down. It's not a sports car, but it's not a small barge either. The engine is smooth, torquey and makes lovely noises when caned. £300/year road tax and 20 mpg around town mean it suits me far better than one of those diesel engined ones.
carlo Posted October 27, 2016 Author Posted October 27, 2016 Carlo I reckon if you get one of these you'll be sick of its rubbish ride and wooden handling after 72hours. I started this thread three years ago and it was very useful, certainly put me off then. Actually regarding ride quality, I was given a lift this week in a virtually new Volvo XC-something, XC60 probably. The ride was so awful it was almost comical, I would have asked for my money back.

DaveAspley Posted October 28, 2016 Posted October 28, 2016 The 1.9 pd is rock solid, the major downfall being camshaft failure if the right oil hasn't been used. Takes 2 hours to change with lifters and new timing belt. The taxi firm I do fleet work for has just scrapped an '08 Octavia with 322,000 on the clock. One cam change at 204k and regular services / belt changes. It finally had an injector let go and flood a cylinder causing horrible rod knock and pouring smoke.
