Arabs don't really like throwing things away, a lot of them still have this make do and mend attitude, although the richer Arabs don't, they literally do throw perfectly servicable items away just because they bought a new one. When I was in Juwait, I saw a plethora of dumped cars at the side of the road, Fatha_Sterling explained that these were simply dumped by thier owners after they got bored of them/couldn't be arsed to fix them. Alot of these cars were late late 80s to 90s Mercs, BMWs (there was a late 90s 750iL amongst the dumped lot)

 

Keeping on top of maintenance over there is quite tough.

 

Mind you, I do know that if they see someone is need of a car, they'd probably give it to you. I reckon if I lived there I'd have a plethora of free old cars.

Penultimate batch - many were from one street in the Old Town which were paved with SOLID GOLD (Opel, Lada, Volvos, etc). The Range Rover was a weird van conversion, registered as such, and I was pleased to get the Autobianchi lurking behind it. The Buick was my host's car, charmingly named "Minge". My favourite, though, despite Montego presence, is the "triple Hyundai" shot.
