Citroen DS for rent?

Recommended Posts

Random request but perhaps someone here has contacts ....

I'm looking to rent (self-driving) any form of Citroen DS for a day - as a treat for a family member whose favourite car it was but who sadly won't be with us for much longer and would quite enjoy a ride in one. Having scoured the interweb, I can't find a thing (this side of the channel at least). Anyone know of any? NW area ideal but by no means essential.

Cheers!

I've just found this http://www.classiccarclub.co.uk/cars/citroen_ds.asp but you'd have to become a member and it's £2500 for 6 months so I'm guessing that one is out.

If it's just for him to be taken for a ride then you might be able to find an owner who would be willing to take him out for a spin in exchange for a charity donation rather than renting - try asking in an owners club forum. You could also try sporting bears http://www.sportingbears.co.uk/ they do a similar sort of thing but raising money for kids charities. not sure if you can guarantee a DS will be at an event though.

Yup, self-driving may be a challenge, especially given quite how extraordinary a DS is to drive. May be worth speaking to a specialist perhaps?

I agree, but you'll find folk wary of taking cash, it can invalidate insurance.

As I am the only one I know around here who confesses to owning the right sort of material...

Would it be you driving or the family member? It would be a lot easier If I could just take you both out for a run otherwise insurance would have to be considered. Maybe if we can find somewhere off public roads you could have a go.

Saloon or Safari?

You could treat me to lunch and if we were passing a garage and I stopped by the pumps you might unbeknownst to me top up the tank cos I would have to travel up from Kent. If that doesn't count as hire and reward.

Nigel Wild in Leeds is the man to speak to, I'd be amazed if you can't find out how to get hold of him using google for a few minutes. Does it have to be a DS, or is the person concerned interested/admiring of all older Citroens? Can sort with a Traction Avant quite easily - as well as being stupidly knowledgeable about older Cits in general.

Big thanks all. Wd be me driving. DS as opposed to Traction I'm afraid.... Chap concerned has had a vast array of shite over the years - ranging from Dacia 1100 to a brown Chrysler 180 automatic! Will have a chat to Nigel Wild. @DSdriver - huge thanks - will PM you as there might well be an opportunity much closer to Kent! Of course happy to throw banknotes at any insurance issues. I was thinking, if cash payment proves tricky, a major "booze and petrol" combo might do the trick....
