Old mag scans

Recommended Posts

I like to settle down to autoshite of an evening with a can of top deck and a marathon bar to ogle the beige interiors and water soluble exteriors of 70s and 80s crud.

Likewise, a nostalgic flick through old car mags is sure to raise a smile (or more). Now that my scanner is speaking to my iPad I thought I'd share the odd amusing pic or article and, given my mag supply is limited, I invite you to do so too. The quality is shite compared to In con sis tant's brochure scans but I have no skillz.

1970s Custom Car is a favourite of mine mainly due to its non-PC, irreverent style.

Here's a typical entry in the letters page:

And here are a couple of pics from one of Car magazine's 'Giant Tests'

I find the DAF steering wheel oddly Datsunesque.

Love that letter, anybody writing that today would be sued by the European Court of Human Rights for denying someone the right to a private life blah blah blah blah blah blah blah....

Never in a million years would I have thought of the Daf 66 as a competitor for the Violet and Viva, presumably it was on cost grounds. The Imp,Fiat 127 maybe the Beetle would have been more natural rivals.

I guess the 140J just edges it over the Daf on space, performance, handling, comfort, accommodation, equipment, ....

Was it an April Fool's day edition?

Have you got scans of the rest of the Quaint Test?

Juan Hu Nose (that might be a nom de plume) of Custom Car predicted that by 1983, 75% of us would be driving a wankel powered car.

"Can the Wankel men pull it off?" is one of the best headlines I've ever read.

Yeah, great headline from Juan Hu doesn't know.

These mini fronts were even less popular than Wankel engines.

Mystery car spotted in Wales. "Aerodynamically good and unusually stylish"

That letter...wow and lolzer.

Man, you can get sent down for saying that sort of stuff on Twatter these days.

Yep, these old mags are a window, not just into the shades of beige of the 70s, but the different set of rules of the time. Hopefully no one here is offended.
