Honey Badger Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I regret losing my bottle and scrapping an 1850 HL Dolomite auto, the sight of all the rust just scared me off tackling it, so I scrapped it for £40. The stainless exhaust on it was probably worth a few hundred on its own. Tuning down a 416Gti because of the cost of insurance and getting a 216SLi, which still cost more than a cav Sri to insure.
mouseflakes Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 1972 Toyota Crown Estate - £200Citroen XM V6 Sei (Manual) - £30Mark 1 R25 Turbo with MOT - £500I regret missing all of these due to lack of storage space (ok - lack of dosh for the R25)
oman5 Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 The only one that springs to mind is a Blue citroen dyane, totally stripped so the shell could be welded up-which had been done to a high standard- plus all the bits to reassemble with a recon engine to boot. for £50. No,come to think of it, I didn't like them then and I still don't. which is probably why I didn't buy it.
mercrocker Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 was offered a mk4 zodiac Farnham estate, just needed a suspension leg, for £25, the only problem was my dad wouldn't let me have it Same here! I BOUGHT a Mk IV V4 saloon for £25 and was told NOT to bring it home. Which was actually quite easy as I dont think it would ever have been capable of moving under its own power again. Later on the only access route to the garden it languished in was built over, marooning the whale behind a brick garage and bungalow...There was a Zody there too but my mate had the back end out of that. About the same time I was also told not to buy a Cowley for £25 that only needed a new rad. Forty years on I have at least scratched that itch - and my Cowley still needs a new rad.....
scruff Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 My grandad tells me tales of buying Morris Eights and Austin Sevens for £15 back in t'60s. I'd bloody love a Seven now, haven't quite got the balls for a resto project which is all my budget goes to at the moment.
Wilko220 Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Like NC, I wish I'd bought a Mini before prices got stupid and they became the preserve of fashionable nobbers. Not that I expect they're any good, but I would quite like to have experienced one.
gary_davidson Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 in 2006 or 2007 I passed up a BMW e30 325ix, the four wheel drive version for £500 this is the only one I can find that's been for sale recently @£3500http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-325IX-4-WHEEL-DRIVE-/271295753627?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item3f2a7cad9b
cort16 Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 E21 323i in full alpina spec. 5 speed, recaros the lot. Pretty much the ultimate e21. Sold for 400 quid. I believe it's still on the road. 3 door xr4i that was mint and I sold it to someone who chapped the door. Regretted it immediately .
Junkman Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 In 1984 I did not buy this car: And I'm not talking about one like these, this is the actual car I didn't buy.It was offered to me back then for roughly the equivalent of a new Fiat Strada, which I was easily able to afford at the time.Instead, I bought a 1970 Oldsmobile 442 W-30 convertible in Aegean Aqua Poly with white decals and interior, which probably qualifies me as an apprentice Autoshiter. In hindsight, I should have opted for a new Fiat Strada, of course. scruff, eddyramrod, ShiteRider and 2 others 5
ShiteRider Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 Mmmmm, several. The Cortina mk5 in 2002, a forest green 2.0 gls that was mintier than a pack of menthols for £850.The white scirroco scala same year for free! Or the black 3dr cosworth a mate of a mate offered me 3 mths ago for my beige cortina + 5 grand ( about £4500 more than i had to spend).
stuboy Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 back in 2001 rover 200 tomcat for £400 as lads dad was a collegue said wanted his parking space back... newborn baby had swallowed up any cash...grrrrrrrrrrrr
anonymous user Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 There are plenty that I regret buying, there are some I regret selling, but the only one I really regret not going for is a Bristol 405. I was twenty and was offered it as a straight swap for my Spitfire; the Bristol had been resprayed in scrap-dealer red but was a going concern. My father talked me out of it saying it was an old man's car and I ended up with a Mk2 Capri instead. I've come close to buying a Bristol a few times since, but always convince myself that either it was too expensive or too much work or I have nowhere to put it. (I even turned down a free 410 once, but there was a very good reason for that at the time so I don't regret that one)
STUNO Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 I was offered a Rolls Shadow in about 1986, owned by a relative (on her deathbed) and in perfect condition, but I had just lost my job, so said no thanks. She had no luck giving it away so it was sold to a dealer.
purplebargeken Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 Regret selling: (in no particular order) My '82 Granada 2.3GL - stunningly beautiful car, comfy and just fabulous. My 110 Land Rover, it was tatty and had a PAS leak but I bloody loved it. I looked down on virtually everything apart from HGV's, no-one cut me up or pulled out on me. It's been SORN for a few years now. Last of all......... my FX4. Another car that I adored. It had its quirks but I just loved driving it, it never failed to put a smile on my face like no other car I have had to date. Arse Regret not buying: nowt.
