Xedos 9

These, seldom seen cars always used to catch my eye in the 90's. Specced up luxo barge with an interesting engine. What's not to like?

What appeals mostly to me though, is the wide-body styling. They look a little like a maxi/RC version - further assisted by the rear quarter electric aerial, based on a narrower car. Much the same as the (D2?) Audi S8. Another favourite of mine.

Mention them to anyone though and all they usually come back with is the Xedos 6.

I remember the 9 - top bollocks spec, especially, being hard to come by, 15 years ago.

I can only imagine how thin on the ground they are now.

Anyone ever owned one?

Or £400... http://retrorides.proboards.com/thread/151830/2000-mazda-xedos-miller-norfolk

Mind, they look shitter and shitter in this thread. Not many resemble the top one and that, for me, is the problem.

Whilst on the subject of RR forum, what's the bet that 'Mystery Machine' has always wanted one/used to own one/just looked at and/or spoke about them last week?

Always fancied one of these. Love them and also the smaller Xedos 6.

Wuuvum on here had one (the one in the retro rides advert in fact). His had the supercharged miller engine but I seem to remember he wasn't that impressed with it.

Still seems to be a quite a lot of car for the money. It's interesting in itself just for the Miller Cycle engine http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miller_cycle

Yeah, it it's a smart looking one and has the supercharged 2.3, it definitley can't be accused of being boring.

Like the MX 6, it's a shame it's WWD. Both don't 'look' it.

I dare you anyway.

Double dog dare.

It is of zero interest to me in nasp form.

Feel free...

As cort16 says, I wasn't overly impressed by the Miller engine.  Sounds nice enough with the V6 and the supercharger whine, but rather gutless I thought for a 200+ bhp engine.  Not slow, but not as quick as I would have expected.  The car itself was a bit here and there too - plenty of gadgets (full leather, climate, cruise, fake wood etc) but a couple of things which struck me as a bit odd for a late '90s exec - no trip computer of any kind, and the (heavy) bonnet needed to be heaved up and held in place with a prop, rather than rising gracefully on gas-assisted struts as I would have expected.  Seats were a bit flat and ride was quite firm, although it cornered well enough (overlight and slightly vague steering notwithstanding).  Overall I wouldn't say I'm in a rush to have another, sadly.
