Mrs_Duke has come into possession of an 05-plate Fiesta TDCi (TCDi? TDiC? whatever) which she is orgasmically happy with. It's ex-mother-in-law, so while it's covered in scratches and dings, it hasn't been ragged or deprived of services. I took it for a quick blat earlier (after spending 2 hours cleaning it ffs, I still need to shampoo the interior  ) and it's actually quite perky. The gutlessness followed by sudden boost, which I find so irksome in most Fords, is a lot more fun in something small   However, all in all, I won't be choosing it over the Shitroen for driving any further than the village shop.

Anyhoo, can anyone with experience tell me what massive failures I should be saving up for? What's about to burst asunder/snap/fall off/explode/short out/etc etc etc?

Omfdmf issues?

Have to say I reckon they will becume quite good shite. Will look for one of the current fezzas for micro Beko in 17 years and report back!

Definitely will be shite. Don't know much about anything past 1990 on these things.

They're quite ok as far as modern diesels go. Common failures are injector seal leaks (catch them quickly..) and they often have problems with fuel supply pipes leaking and letting in air. Im guessing/ hoping it's a 1400? The 1600's are plagued with turbo problems.

A friend of my mother's has one, same year I think. Had a bit of EGR trouble IIRC, and something about excessive leak-off. The car doesn't look as if it has much mud.

Yep, tis a 1400 fortunately. Fuel pipes and injector seals I can just about handle so that's a relief. I'm just hoping the Haynes for these is a 'proper' manual, not one of those pansy "should only be carried out by a Ford specialist" affairs.

You'd think... I've been spannering profesionally for many years, but was brought to the brink of insanity by Citroen C3 fuel pipe replacement...

The only specks of rust I can see are where M-I-L has managed to gouge the paint off

According to the linky, they were all German-built, which might explain why it's still free from rattles and squeaks at nearly 90k
