I'm sure someone on here described welding as trying to spoon melted butter up a badgers arse, which describes it pretty well.

Was it not Des that likened welding to trying to shovel butter up a badgers arse with a soldering iron? Someone had it as a quote for a bit and it always made me smile. Not that I can weld.

Therefore I'd have had to sack that SD1 off so top marks for persisting with it as it looks pretty bloody fit now and hopefully you'll finally get some use out of it next year.

Orsomes, as the Yanks like to say. I remember this car from your thread on RR, but never knew what had happened to it. Until I read this thread, that is. Hat doffed for your perseverance; your welding has improved as you've gone along and the repaint looks stunning. Not convinced about the arches, but it's good you've made your stamp on its looks. Loving the wheels too - are they pentas?

When I had my dads SD2400 turbo SD1 (or summat like that) I had it priced up for a reshell.  seem to recall it came in at about 4k in early '90's as all the parts were available off the shelf- shell itself was only £1600.

Eventually I killed the engine with easy start and tired of having wet feet due to the hole under the pedals.

Had it serviced and the garage charged so much I had them sell it on my behalf to pay the bill - I may have made £30 on the deal.

Loved that rust bucket in metallic salmon.

Oh Hello,

I dragged this grumpy old hector out of it's lair as I've a few little jobs to on the XJR which require it being dry so the Rover had to swap placew with the Jag for a bit.

There was much huffing, puffing, bad smells and farting out the exhaust going on when I first tried to get it going.. The car was also quite difficult to start. I'm here all week etc.

I was pretty sure the Jag wasn't going to go in as at last count it's 40 cm longer than the SD1, which is already quite big and pretty snug in the lockup.

To my surprise and with the help of the wheel dollys (these things are magic) it went in no bother.

Once I'd got that in I decided to have a quick look around the Rover to see if anything has fell off.

Hmm, this is a bit unfortunate and a result of me moving it in and out the lockup by touch. When it's cold you need to give it a pit of pedal to move it so it tends to leap forwards and in this case it leaped into a wall. A bit of touch up paint and a tin of satin black and it'll be fine.

Also that is not my oil under the car infact I was glad to see no oil at all under it when I moved it out the garage. The cronic oil leak it had must have been fixed by replacing the gearbox sump gasket. I think this was caused by a 3 series that was in the car for about 5 minutes.

The back bumper bracket has also snapped. These are made out something that looks and if I'm honest tastes a bit like liquorice. I think I'll need to make up a new metal one.

Finally a photo of my ZOMG cone filter conversion.  Not ideally located but it was running no filter for a year so it's got to be an improvement. This actually took ages as I had to cut the outlet to the pipe, bend it up then weld a new bit back in at the right angle.

One of the things I had to do the jag was remove the stripe. I got a loan of this rubber thingy that you use in the drill and it removes the stripe without removing the paint.

Quite neat, unfortunately the original painted on pin stripe is still there but it's been painted over at some time.
