MG Rover - not actually all that shit.

The 600 I had was  a great car let down by crusty bodywork. Like the 800, you don't see them anymore.

The rest of the range will go this way in time. So will anything made by SAAB.

Take no notice of what the Wilson's and Clarkson's of the world think, the trade know that German stuff is easy to sell but the reliability and build quality is a total myth. Personally, I would avoid anything audi/BMW/VAG.

Ask anybody who works on cars - they are riddled with faults. VW diesel oil pumps? BMW swirl flaps? BMW's with crusty bodywork? Car mechanics magazine have just concluded their BMW 320 diesel project - it was a hateful car on an 02 plate that to be fair should have been scrapped due to neglect - the purchase price and cost of improvements stood at around £4k.

The magazine bought a 2004 laguna dci estate from auction for £200 more than the BMW - it was a far better car with hardly any issues, and modern french stuff does'nt seem to rust - you occasionally see an old scenic with patches at the rear of the sills.

The "snob" factor comes into play when people choose their motors, hence everybody wants "premium" brands when they are buying. However, when the bastard thing is dead at the side of the road, the buyer cannot afford the "premium" cost of repairs.

Maybe there are no bad cars. Maybe it's just the people buying them.

Every time I see a Rover 600, I love the way it actually stands out of the crowd. It is a seriously classy shape with lovely lines. I was going to buy one, but bought a Daihatsu covered in cartoons instead, which is not a seriously classy shape and wouldn't know what to do with a lovely line if it was dangled in its face. Probably try and catch it. It reminds me of an ugly but daft cat we used to have. Quite sweet, bit odd.

Wonder what would have happened if Ronda had kept going.

Well, it couldn't really have turned out any worse. The way Honda were unceremoniously told to piss off at the point of the firm's sale to BMW is one of the many unfortunate moments in the history of the Rover story.

Yeah, the Rover 600 looks like a class act and is certainly a comfortable motor to potter about in. Embarrassingly cheap to buy too

Honda were given the opportunity to 'up the ante' and take a larger stake, but the Japanese insisted that if things were to continue Rover should remain independent. I can understand their take on this, but what a dropped bollock they made!

I passed Longbridge on Sunday, still the same emotion

Haven't been over there for about a year now; has the building work progressed much?

I did see the Flight Shed in mid-demolition. Very sad.
