Here's an idea that may or may not work...

Granted, we all lavish a certain amount of care on our vehicles to keep them in tip top working order though when it's time for tested there's always those certain issues that now need attending too.

What fine fixes do you do to gain a stay of execution?

I'll start off with a time honored transit remedy

Front wing edge still taped from last year but the money saved there was spent x4 in the tape used on the rear doors.

MOT 3:45, wish me luck.

Best of luck on the test of course.

On my old Renner12 there were some big bushes on the rear beam axle locating arms that always looked very frilly round the edge, but in fact were very sound.

Another owner told me he had to replace the arms at vast expense because of a test failure on these - but it failed again next year on the same (see - they just have very frilly edges - which serve no purpose).

Anyway - having convinced myself that the bushes on my car were sound, I decided I'd just tidy them up for test time. I found the best solution was to cut very short lengths of mountain bike inner tube then drop the arms and stretch these over the bushes. Bolt the arms back into place and Presto! The bushes looked brand new.

 mountain bike inner tube

Like that, good tip. Inner tubes have many uses, even after they have stopped holding air.

13 month ticket obtained

Lot's of advisory notes, mostly same as last year;

Screen still chipped - Been like this for last 4 years. Screw you autoglass and screw your TV fear campaign.

Springs still rusty - Yeah whatever

Headlight still shedding it's silver - Got some chrome paint in the lock up which has worked before, I'll do it when it fails.

Lower ball joint rubber still split - Been meaning to these since last year, think they're probably beyond inner tube by now.

Front tyres have no load rating - They have! Not as much as the rears though it's a minibus on the v5 so whatever.

Does anyone remember that episode of Minder where Arfur got his feeble-minded mechanic to bodge up the front wing on a BL something-or-other and the idiot used mud?

Anyway, the buyer returned none too happy, with grass growing from said wing.

MOT on the Volvo is up in Febuary so I'll have to renew the tape holding one of the bulb holders to the rear light circuit before then. There isn't much other bodgery though.
