Found an interesting old pamphlet from my grandmother-in-law's house the other day. Brought it back here and scanned it.

It contains a fair bit of old chod, and an interesting insight into just what you should know in 1971 to be driving here.

Can you pass the written driving test here? It's actualy not that difficult, and it's amazing how much more matter-of-fact things seem to be in this pamphlet..

That is splendid! The thing I noticed was that wheras in the UK a load of street scenes from 1971 would look very dated, those American ones could have been taken yesterday. Only the actual cars (and the people's clothing, where visible) look old-fashioned. It wouldn't be surprising to see a Prius or something pootling into shot.

Note though the number of seat belts being worn... this is from before seat belt wearing was compulsory. "Safe" driving..? heh.

I was genuinely perplexed by question 21, but thankfully there are answers.

It seems when someone is following you, you should nail it to lose the suckers.

Yay! I passed, I can now drive safely in Louisiana in 1971.

Good to know trains have right of way, I needed reminding of that years ago as I passed over a crossing watching the gates coming down through the sunroof.

That's a pretty good car chase!

 

Looks more like Alabama gulf shores- especially with that sand, but nevertheless fun times. Some people still try to drive like that around here. Mind you, drive on the levees like that these days and they lock you up for life..

Political issues. Hit the gentleman in question 28 as he's driving away angrily along the levee from his bad day at work and it becomes hate crime.
