purplebargeken Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 NOW SOLD TO JUNKMAN Just wondered if people on here might be interested in some moped shite. I have for you delectation and delight a 1978/79 Mobylette AV89 moped looking for a good home. I've had it a couple of years now and it's time for it to go to someone else with a view to them restoring it. It is a non-runner but I have fitted new points, condenser and plug. It may need the Gurtner carb cleaning out and the points setting properly. The tyre hold air and this is obviously the dual seat model which to my eyes, looks more purposeful (can that be said of a moped?) You can see the condition from the piccies, I have a new set of handlebars and the leg shields are all present and correct, albeit not fitted. Parts are easily available and there are loads of forums that you can seek advice from. Location: North London Price: £199 firm. I haz photo's! This looks like a weird arse aftermarket fuckwit add on to me, but I could be wrong. It's shite so it was coming off. The back mudguard is the worst bit, I was just going to trim it off neatly. The 'ped is on the DVLA database but I have no log book (never quite got round to it). Gotta go as I need the space. PM me if interested. Cheers Ken
Junkman Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 Since I could never afford the petrol bill to ride it from London to here, let alone the train ticket to get there, I wonder if this could be Autoshite relayed oop narf?
Cavcraft Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 Since I could never afford the petrol bill to ride it from London to here, let alone the train ticket to get there, I wonder if this could be Autoshite relayed oop narf? Yes it could, for a small fee. Seriously like, pm me or something. DVee8 1

skattrd Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 I think a quick and painless sale is enough reward
purplebargeken Posted August 26, 2013 Author Posted August 26, 2013 You could of course be quite correct
Cavcraft Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 I think a quick and painless sale is enough reward Tell that to my arse. Junkman 1
Junkman Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 Meanwhile Miss Lette has landed in the Refuge de Junkman. Refusal to run turned out to be mainly due to this: A carburetter filled with porridge. A phloat that doesn't phloat phloats not: Also, the dunno the English word for it, the Schieber, the thing that moves up and down when you twist the grip and acts like a throttle, was stuck. Some extensive cleanage and back together puttage, fillage with fresh 1/25 mix, followed by some frantic pedalage, resulted in startage.A few adjustments were done and Miss Lette was puttering nicely with remarkably little fog creatage in my garden. It spat leaves, spider webs, dead mice, etc., but after ca. a semi-hour she ran perfectly well.Hence some test drivage through the adjacent council estate commenced, where Miss Lette reached some astonishing speeds. I felt like Burt Munro at times. Good thing the brakes work, since I forgot to test them before I set off to break the sound barrier.I also got the headlight to glow a little, but then had to call it a day. I'd say, getting the lights to work properly, changing the tyres (they are cracked) and replacing the missing speedo cable should result in a test certificate. Then the carnage can begin. Cavcraft Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 Bloody Norah, you didn't mess about then?!
Junkman Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 I made quite a mess of the flags though.Wanna get this on the road to save £££££ on my daily commute to work.
purplebargeken Posted September 1, 2013 Author Posted September 1, 2013 Yeah, I guess that would stop it from running. I never ventured that far into the reasoning for lack of runnings. I quite like porridge but not that way. Fabulous work on getting her putt putting along. Missing speedo cable eh? Hadn't actually noticed. You have a colour co-ordinated moped and lawn mower. Cor. I guess you're happy with Ms. Lette then
Junkman Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 I'm well chuffed, thank you! This is not going to be for sale for quite some time me thinks.
purplebargeken Posted September 1, 2013 Author Posted September 1, 2013 Good, glad to hear it. I'll buy it back off you for an extra £50.
Cavcraft Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 On that basis would you like a London taxi for just* £999? Junkman 1
purplebargeken Posted September 1, 2013 Author Posted September 1, 2013 £9.99! Bargain, yes please.
Junkman Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 (Re) purchase of a London Taxi would be required though, unless you want to ride it home. Now, if you decided on the latter, I'd let you have it for what I paid just to see the ensuing collection thread.
purplebargeken Posted September 2, 2013 Author Posted September 2, 2013 I might just take you up on that!
Junkman Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 Too late. A bit of further shoppage has commenced. France is a true paradise for this kind of nonsense. There is no replacement for displacement, hence uppage to 75 cc: Such a huge cylinder wants to be fed, also, the more air and fuel you get into an engine, the more POWAH comes out. Hence 22 Dellorto: And to clear the toxic fumes: To get the resulting gigantic OMGUSBLTORK on the road, some serious RUBBAH is required. Good rear in 2.75 phatness: And since the front tyre will not be in contact with the road often, this skinny one will do: Let's see where this gets me. I might start playing around with sprockets a bit.
Mike D Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 Awesome! I look incredibly forward to your tuning adventure! I'd love to pep up my '60 Moby could you pm me some links to where you got your items please Junkman? Cheers!
trigger Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 Excellent! I'm starting to think I should give up on cars and start playing with 'ped as they seem cheaper and easier to work on! Junkman 1
Junkman Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 I post the links here for posteriority. They aren't a secret. But make sure you correctly identify your engine. All the stuff I posted is for the AV7. Also note, that nowadays Mobylette parts are often listed under MBK, as the company Motobecane is known since 1998. Here is where I found the exhaust: http://mobilitycenter.fr/nantes/search_product.php?id_lang=1&id_type=985&id_brand=1120&id_model=0&id_category=0&submit=View This guy has loads of shit for Motobecanes: http://www.solex-motobecane.com/1-pieces-pour-motobecane-mbk-5.htm Here you get the 75cc kit: http://www.rrd-preparation.com/en/Kit-70-75-80cc-rolls-45-piston-with-47mm-for-MBK-MOTOBECANE-AV7/2593-product-2593.html He also sells the Dellortos, but you may be better off on Ebay. The tyres are courtesy of Ebay anyway. Then there are these guys in England: http://www.mopedland.ukfsn.org/index.htmlhttp://www.classicmopedspares.com/
Junkman Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 Excellent! I'm starting to think I should give up on cars and start playing with 'ped as they seem cheaper and easier to work on! Fugginell, man, DO IT!I feel like being 15 again!Only difference is that nowadays you buy the bits off the internet instead of a Transit van in the Disco car park.
