Modern Help?

Need a wee bit of advice re my modern

It's a 59 plate Clio 1.2 16v with 34K on it, last serviced in November on 27K miles, checked the oil earlier and there's some mayo on the underside of the oil cap, didn't think too much of it assuming it was just condensation but its got the better of me and I've googled it and its come up with the usual OMGHGF stories and people saying mayo should only appear in the winter months with the engine not getting warm enough.

Here's the deal, I do a 32 mile round trip to work usually 5/6 days a week, 16 in the morning, car sits for usually 9 hours then the 16 miles home, most of the journey us 60/70mph and the temp needle never goes above half way, is it likely to just be condensation or does this sound like the HG on the way out?

Sounds like it's gone French.

Commiserations.

It does sound like condensation. I'd be tempted to give the car an oil change and see if it returns.

if you're worried try doing a chemical test on the water to see if there's any hydrocarbons in it, or do a compression test on it.

I was recently in a similar situation with one of little Daihatsu's. I got a local garage to do a compression test on the  head and a chemical test on the water. It cost me £30 but  now I have peace of mind that the engine is good, and not about to have an expensive mishap.

It always used to be that different oils were more or less prone to turning to mayo. I cured many a mayo making engine by binning Castrol Gtx and replacing it with nice green Duckhams Hypergrade.

Of course I realise this advice is 20 years out of date, but what did you expect from Autoshite?

A good run should sort it. Is the temp gauge getting up to normal? I recently bought a mk4 Astra with a knackered stuck open thermostat, so it wasn't running warm enough. Loads of mayo on cap and in breather tubes etc. New stat and a few good runs and it's cleared itself up now.

Don't worry at all. It's a completely normal Clio trait, it's just condensation.

Like you say its probably condensation. If its not you will get other symptoms.

My suggestion, don't worry but keep an eye on it. I am a partially qualified* t'interweb mechanical know it all, so take everything I say as the truth.**

Nah I think making him drive a latest shape diesel automatic Scenic would be a better idea, certainly a more unpleasant suggestion.

I wonder how many disgruntled renner owners have attempted this, only to discover that their shonky french shit won't make it that far?

My English shit would, especially after a few Mars bars.

I'm scared of heights. Could I store my faeces up for a month and use a trebuchet?
