DodgyBastard Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 Would anyone be interested in coming along to Glasgow to have their shiter photographed in an infinite white space? Price is likely £10 per car and date will be June sometime probably.I think it would be gr8 to have some dirty old shiters photographed in this environment.
ayrshirelad Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 Depends on what date time etc. Could be interested but what excatly is it if that aint a daft question?
ayrshirelad Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 Good point that never thought of that. I assumed someone would be taking pics of the cars hence why we paying a tenner, but that could be the cost of the hire of the room i suppose.
DodgyBastard Posted May 13, 2013 Author Posted May 13, 2013 It's a tenner for the space, we'll just have to make do with our shitty cameras.
DodgyBastard Posted May 14, 2013 Author Posted May 14, 2013 ^ just bring a desk lamp and an instamatic... That's the plan. There's promise of getting photos taken in a semi professional environment but absolutely no promise the photos will be any good.
vulgalour Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 I like the idea of a white room to take photographs of my appalling cars in, but not if I'm the one wielding the camera.
Mr_Bo11ox Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 Be sure to leave plenty of oil splats on the floor.
Cavcraft Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 Or borrow my 306 and leave it running for 20 seconds.
Tartan58 Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 Sounds interesting, I'd be up getting some shots of the MX5 even if it doesn't qualify as a shitter. As a trade off I have a decent camera & tripod and can wield it to a decent amateur level, I would be more than happy to take photos of other people's cars! Dates might be an issue as I can't do Sundays and don't have many free Saturdays in the near future but weekday evenings are generally ok. [edit] I also have one of these which I use when working on the car in the garage (I'd imagine a few autoshiters may have something similar?) a few of those would do a decent job of lighting the place up. http://www.diy.com/nav/fix/handtools-storage-workwear/handtools/torches/worklights/B-and-Q-Yellow-Halogen-Work-Light-and-Tripod-12067648?skuId=12598354
Spiny Norman Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 It's going to need some kind of lighting. You're not going to illuminate something as big as a car with a camera's built in flashgun and even if there are basic electric lights there you'll never get a decent result with them. These work lights might be a solution but they won't be colour balanced, and using more than one (necessary) may well result in the finished photos having quite pronounced local hotspots and colour casts which will be right PITA to photoshop out. Probably not that expensive to hire a few photographic tungsten lights for a day, which might be worth thinking about.
Tartan58 Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Good point, these work lights would at least need some kind of defuser to give a halfway even light. Hiring some proper photographic lighting would be the best bet for getting good quality shots, if there's a decent number of folk seriously interested it wouldn't be that expensive between us (although have no idea on costs tbh)I assume the place is a photographic studio therefore the chances are that they may be able to offer the hire of equipment, failing that I do know a couple of professional photographers who may be able to assist. All depends if we want to be professional or 'autoshite' and cobble something together ourselves that may be ok or may be useless but will be fun!
Spiny Norman Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 I assume the place is a photographic studio.....For a tenner I was assuming it was a barn someone had attacked with a couple of pots of white emulsion! All it would take lighting wise would be a couple of redheads with diffusers, probably no more than £50 for the day. I'm sure someone could bring along a tripod for those that didn't have one, most decent digi cameras would be well able to get decent results.
vulgalour Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Aren't sealed beam headlights tungsten filament? If so, we should have enough of those between us to light the space autoshite fasion, particularly if gaffer taped to bamboo garden canes or something.
seacow Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 Depending on dates I would be well up for that. Just whether to take bmw or new Montego shite... Or get wife to drive one over
DodgyBastard Posted June 3, 2013 Author Posted June 3, 2013 We went ahead with this yesterday, planning on arranging another soon
DodgyBastard Posted June 3, 2013 Author Posted June 3, 2013 Sorry that was one of my shite photos, Here's a better one not taken by me...
CreepingJesus Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 I wouldn't mind doing this sometime. This shoot wasn't to be for me, tho'; falling in the middle of a run of night shifts. Maybe another time, and I'll bring the Canon with some nice B+W film in it, see what happens!
nisfan Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 The owner brought his own lighting bought the day before, there is a carwash nearby, a guy with a Volvo used it and it seemed to be clean enough. Cant wait to see the pro pics of the bluey.
DodgyBastard Posted June 25, 2013 Author Posted June 25, 2013 I'd hate to drive down there and then shoot a now filthy car. What? Like this?
