I'm due to be picking up a 52 plate diesel Primera tomorrow night. This is the only info I have though it's cheap enough and the money can apparently wait to change hands till I've managed to pass it on or pass it over if needs be.

Oh it also runs a total loss cooling system apparently due to a holey rad!

Goggleage tells me it could look like this

Wiki suggests an alliance with Renault sometime in the late 90's so does this mean being a derv it is liable to have the infamous exploding donkey up front?

Oh and, anyone want a *fantastic new car for cheap?

Is it a 2.2? I'm sure I read it's a common myth that it's a Renault unit and is actually Nissan's own lump. Fugly bastards but I bet if the mileage is right someone would want it for mini cabbing.

2.2 was my first thought though at present that's all guess work. I'd also guess high mileage and a bit tatty though will add more pics tomorrow of the real deal once I've framed it home.

Top one's an Almera, the Primera looks like this.

I quite like this shape Primera, but I've heard nothing good about them compared to the first ones.

Woops so it is, should of spotted that as the farv inlaw had one before chipping it in for a Tino.

Should of posted one of these facelifted jobbies

It's seems 52 plate is on the cusp of the new model though probably more likely to be the Renaulty one by the looks of things, we'll see.

I borrowed a 2.0 old shape Primera to blat down west a few years back. Stonking engine which was kept cool at motorway speeds by a rad with mainly missing cooling fins. It would still be going now if were not for the pizza delivery micra T bone interface!

My dad had a 2002 new shape primera as a company car, and I always remember being impressed by the reversing camera! I also remember the fan controls and radio etc were done through the screen, and that screen broke on several occasions, leading to my dad driving around in winter with the air con on full cos he'd turned it on to de-mist the screen, whacked on full and then the screen died...

That is all the input I have on the subject...

Those screen controlled heater controls are a bloody nightmare. Not at all intuitive when you're bombing down a Fenland road wondering how to stop the windscreen misting up. Anything that requires you to look away from where you are going for that long is hateful.

The 2.2 is a Nissan lump with 136bhp.36-40mpg around the doors, mid 40's on a run.Check the intercooler over

The clarion radio/cd will go tits up,its around £80 to get repaired from clarion, don't bother with a second hand as it will go tits up.

check the aerial and waterway for water leaking in to the rear running down the c pillars wet rear seatbelts

The farter in law sold his last month that he had had for 3 years no other probs other than radio and leak .

Funny that, my daily for about six months a few years back was a 2.0 P10 with most of the rad fins missing - was fine in daily use and didn't notice there was a problem until I was following a mate down the A14 at three-figure speeds and the car started to missfire - looked down and the temp gauge was off the scale. Let it cool, topped up the water and off it went again - didn't seem to suffer any ill effects.

The P10 is indeed a fantastically well engineered car, a little boring perhaps though for a modern daily I really can't see much wrong with them. With the hatch back and seats down they swallow serious amounts of tat too

I went to see the car in question tonight and was firstly pleased by how modern a (s)wanky it looks though was a little disappointed it didn't turn out to be another P10 as my mate who had the old one would of jumped at the chance of another.

To be fair the car is decent enough and we're getting it for a song as it's the old man's of a mates Mrs so mustn't grumble. The PO has had a world of grief with it and has lately paid for a new turbo to be fitted which is playing up and the mechanic who has done the deed has gone awol  It's also dropped all it's water and the rad is suspected though TBH it could be a dodgy hose for all I know as we didn't bother looking other than passing it on the drive.

It's in a decent hue, blue, green or grayish, one of them nondescript new car paint jobs and has alloy wheels with good tyres (may get fitted to her indoors Leon if they fit) some computer shit on the dash and yeah, that's about as much as I noticed whilst failing to get any pics.

The pick up was a fail too as we discovered the light board and A frame were 10 miles and much London traffic apart so the car's still on our mans drive though we have a gentleman's agreement on it.

TBH I really can't be arsed to get involved with fixing it, largely due to it's history and uninspiring nature though more so because I have many things to fix that are for keeps. Ebay here it comes...
