Mrs Oman wants a Roomster. apparently a 16 year old pug 306 with 160k on the clock isnt good enough.

Stuff as new as a roomster is way out my comfort zone and I know the square root of sod all about them. she wants the 1.9 td version. worth bothering or are they shit? I've already told her I won't be working on it.

roomy...errr quirky looks....errr, you will stab your self on the odd shaped front doors....errr, you will look like you should be carrying a wheelchair person in the back....errrr it will be incredibly dull to drive...errr abs/tracs light will most probably come on. not shite, just shit and you will have to start telling everyone who asks about it " its a VW really etc etc etc" as if that makes it great or something.

I'm a big fan of the Yeti, maybe worth a look? The Roomster always strikes me as a bit...well...odd.

Get a Panda instead....

I did actually try to get her to have a panda. I like them. she's not keen. Yetis are awesome- but still way too expensive

The Roomster is deliciously odd. I've driven one with the turbo diesel engine and it was lovely in many ways. But then I am also deliciously odd.

What they're like with a good chunk of mileage on them I've no idea.

I've travelled in the back of a Roomster taxi. It's very tall, but it didn't feel THAT spacious in terms of rear legroom (not cramped- just not great).

Surely a Gran Move would be cheaper, more reliable and more shite!

whats wrong with a Berlingo?

the HDI ones are quick enough

Don't the HDi engines self destruct? or am I thinking of something else? my knowledge of cars doesn't extend much past the time they stopped making sierras.

Have to say corolla verso looks very good. I never even noticed them before. I told the missus to drive a few different ones to see what she thinks. My 8 year old wants her to buy a volvo 240 like mine.:mrgreen:

Can you get her one with 120k on the clock? It's what any caring husband would do :D

the 2.0 8V HDIs are pretty tough. Even if the cambelt breaks they only normally break a couple of rockers.

The 16V ones are more problematic but they didn't put those in Berlingos.

The newer 1.6 HDI is not as tough as the old 2.0 so I would go for one of those.

Thanks for that, another one for the list of alternatives

As old ford says, these are basically a stretched heightened Fabia 2. The 1.9 td is a nice simple engine by modern standards and proved its worth in Octavia cabs. A VW Caddy Max (or Maxi) is another alternative.
