Unlicensed with Keeper Change??

Hi all.

Just insured the Xantia and i'm looking forward to wallowing about in it. The previous owner cashed in the tax and SORNed it half way through this month, i.e he would get a refund from the DVLA for the remaining full months, not this one. I assumed that meant that the Xantia was taxed until the end of the month and i'd be fine driving it, although the previous owner kept the tax disc and I OBV can't display it. The DVLA website was showing the Xantia as taxed, however today it's now showing as "Unlicensed with Keeper Change". I have never seen this status before, what does it mean? It also says Date of Liability 07 04 2013. Have I missed out on the remaining few days of tax in this month and i'm going to have to pay for a whole month even though the DVLA have already been paid once for it?

I'm a bit confused!

To take the piss even further a Xantia diesel is a higher tax category than a 2.3 turbo Saab 9-5 so I had to pay an additional premium!

Yup. DVLA's latest scam. They will try have you 2 ways

Failure to display. That'll be £60 please. (didnt try that one on me as they thought a higher figure would be claimable for 'no tax')

No tax. Because its been encashed, from the date it was received it was voided. So, although he's paid until the end of the month -you havent, and have no tax. Their intention is to get the same month paid twice- and if you use the vehicle, and get nabbed , they will try to sue.

Ask me how I know. I do know that when I stood in front of the Magistrates, and explained similar circs, calmly & lucidly -whilst taking the opportunity to rile the DVLA's Prosecutor (who didnt know toss) I scored plenty of brownie points. Said Mags decided I was indeed Guilty; but the extenuating mitigating circumstances rendered the fine of 'nil' -since DVLA had not actually suffered any material loss (the month was already paid) & I got my expenses (1/2 day) so they ended up paying me.

But I'm an aggrssive bastard when it comes to those robbin bastards- you may not be.

So, be warned.

It's down to 'failure to display' sadly. Even if the DVLA have been paid for the remainder of the month. No license disc in the screen = fine.

I'm not too fussed about driving without displaying, you only really run a risk of getting collared if you leave it parked up in the street where a rozzer may spot it.

According to the Welsh bint I spoke to today, the Saab is group 29 and the Xantia is 31!
