Quick VIC question

Should probably be in the 'stupid question' thread  Apparently the car needs a VIC check due to a marker on the system. It's also due an MOT next week. Can an MOT be done before the VIC, or will the same 'marker' issue prevent it? (If the VIC didn't cost £40 it wouldn't really be an issue....)

You do not need a valid mot to get a vic check.

However If you want to drive the car to the test center then you need insurance and mot,

You will not be able to re tax a car that has a vic marker against it though not without the vic paperwork,

That's OK then, I didn't want to be stuck without an MOT while I was waiting for the test appt. (if that makes sense) - although if I won't be able to tax it either, I'll have to make the VIC a priority anyway  I suppose that's what the 'emergancy' credit card was for. Or not.:evil:

If you have the v5 in your name you can tax it and drive it, the Vic is no priority at all, an escort I had got bumped into and got lumbered with a cat c, I still had the v5 so I repaired it then carried on regardless I had no problem taxing and using it, you just won't receive tax reminders

You can tax it with the green slip at post office but you won't get away with it for long as it flags up on computer,

when you try to tax it a second time the computer says no

I only have the green slip as I've only had the car about 3 weeks. Instead of getting a shiny new V5 through the post, I got the letter telling me it needed a VIC. So I imagine it'll flag up when I try and tax it in a couple of weeks, unless I get a test slot before then. Testicles.

you may still be able to tax it at a post office with the green slip and an v5 aplication form but if the doovla have not sent you a v5 then it may be a no go.

The last vic test i did was 3 days after the call to book so you may get it done pretty quick anyway

Easy, because they were the dogs bollocks back in 1990 and can still hold their own today. 175mph FTW! And £89 fully comp as well.

unless its something to do with the VIC you DO NOT normally need a current MOT or road tax to drive to a pre booked MOT test. You just need insurance. Or by test did you mean VIC test?

Could I add my question to this .... I have just bought a 205 that is out of T&T and needs a VIC check before I can get the V5 in my name and then put it on Sorn.

Is there any time limit for the VIC? the car is a project for me and my son and could take a couple of years...
