How to annoy your neighbours

Have thoroughly enjoyed my time here so far, so thought I'd share with you, my own depressing autoshite!

Chief shitter is my 1993 Discovery 200tdi.

These things are so unfashionable now, it's unreal. Which is what I think attracted me to this eyesore in Jewish racing beige.

Rescued from ebay after sitting untouched for 8 years, this car was leading a normal life until its owner died. His widow didn't want to part with it (no idea why) and thus it sat unloved for years.

I viewed it, made an offer and collected a few days later with a trailer.

Obviously, it looked awful-

However, under the general depressive-ness was a very rust free, 72k vehicle, three door, with the beautifully crap compass decals up the sides. The interior is the near-criminal light blue and it kind of felt... 'right'

I decided it needed to be saved from the Defender boys, who are all too keen to rape these for their diesel engines/ boxes/ axles/ awsomeness etc.

It needed a full recommissioning, including new brakes all round, new fluids all round, a head gasket swap, pas pipes, tyres, cam belt, rollers, waterpump, bumpers, headlamps -the list goes on and on!!!

Luckily, it did get there in the end and now is used nearly daily. Total all-up cost came to just over £1k. It returns 29/30mpg with my daily use and runs quite happily on the bio diesel I buy from the farmer next door.

Highlights include, Maestro van rear lights, Montego instruments, Marina door handles and the fact no mother doing the school run would even step near to it, for fear of being laughed at while parking across the school gates.

It works hard for it's existence, tows trailers every week and regularly goes up and down the country picking up new shite arrivals 8)

Next up are my two 106 diesels!

The first one has been in my possession for 4 years, and is now used daily by my better half. It's nearly done 160k miles, is totally reliable and never dips below 60mpg. Rear beam is almost due to be replaced but it's still showing no play. It has quite impressive lacquer peel now (gone very much downhill since the photo) but still soldiers on

Lucas pump on this one, so only pump diesel. It's a zest2 model, which despite sounding quite appealing, means you get a crap 80s-style sunroof that leaks and ruins your seats, manual everything and the handy deletion of the boot light.

This one is a recent purchase. I decided I had way too little rubbish around me and decided to buy this shimmering beauty.

Another 106, but this one is an XL model. That means you get a crap 80s-style sunroof that leaks and ruins your seats, manual everything and the handy addition of the boot light (pure luxury) :D

This one is gloriously shite. It cost me £260, with tax and MoT. The reason it was so cheap was down to the fact most panels are dented, the engine wouldn't start from cold without so much effort it would be easier to run the 20 miles to work, and the handy feature of a brake pedal that sinks to floor.

Brakes were fixed with a £10 wheel cylinder and the cold-start was sorted with nothing more than a few jubilee clips and an afternoon's fiddling.

So far, I've serviced it including cambelt and even washed it (see pic).

Alternator failed today but a £30 replacement sorted that! It leaks oil profusely from the camshaft seal, which even after replacement, is still leaving nasty patches on my driveway :x I think this may need further investigation :|

Hope you like!

That Discovery is excellent. Extra shite points for being a three-door, which is naturally my favourite. I always liked the side graphics...

That Discos great, I love seeing unloved sheds getting a new leash of life, well done that man!

Thanks! Early Discos are quite a rare sight nowadays- I think they look quite small compared to the megawanky current dinosaur sized 4x4s. Holy grail of early Discos are the G-WAC registered ones. These were mainly press vehicles and some were part of the big 1989 launch in Plymouth. However, these cars are still considered so worthless by the general car-buying mong public, that even those are worth nothing

That, and the fact that most Discovery's over the age of 10 have nothing left of their boot floor.

A MK1 Discovery, unfashionable? They’re as socially acceptable as walking into a coffee bar with your todger out, taking a piss on the middle of the floor, picking your nose while singing a dirty rugby song, wearing a denim jacket.

My kind of car.

love for the 3 door disco, mum fordperv had one a couple of years ago it was truly shite in the turquoise and rust combo I loved it mainly because when she got it she gave me her 2 door 1990 2.6 petrol Isuzu trooper to play with 8)

Yeah, always wanted a 3dr myself. I did once go and view a nice 3dr V8, but bottled it when I realised it probably meant going to work on the train most days. Probably for more reasons than fuel economy
