tooSavvy Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Proton UK have on 'back order' the bottom suspension arm/front [either side] for SAVVY... so failing the MOT for a Balljoint puts the car off the road.  The fitment is a 15MM peg, not a taper & two bolts onto the pressed steel arm. Proton do not supply a 'loose' balljoint part. I see Fiesta/Corsa/Passat 'bolt in' replacement ball joints, all 15MM..... my marrer, who is stuck, is working his way thru the list to see if anything can be found to fit (or a hole elongated to allow a fit).  FFiNN $hite tooSavvy
tooSavvy Posted April 10, 2013 Author Posted April 10, 2013 This part you can't get..... £120+VAT. Passat balljoint £4...... allegedly minor 'slottage' required, getting holes to fit bolts. Is this 'truly $hiteworthy'? tooSavvy
John F Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Excellent result, assuming you don't have any trouble getting them to fit.
tooSavvy Posted April 10, 2013 Author Posted April 10, 2013 Excellent result, assuming you don't have any trouble getting them to fit. ... wilco & wilconfirm   tooSavvy
Conrad D. Conelrad Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Nice work, Savvy! This is the sort of stuff Cubans have to do when repairing their Buick Roadmasters with VAZ 2101 parts. Just one of the many ways Proton ownership is like being trapped on an embargoed communist island. Bren and Pillock 2
Morgan84 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Modify both sides equally and track the car up and its a suitable practical modiforcation
tooSavvy Posted April 20, 2013 Author Posted April 20, 2013 Excellent result, assuming you don't have any trouble getting them to fit. ... wilco & wilconfirm   UPDATE Passat part fitted [with minor slottage] and totally equal dimensions + MOT happy WinnagE  tooSavvy
tooSavvy Posted March 9, 2014 Author Posted March 9, 2014 .....*** Thread Dredgeage ALERT *** One of the Malay 'FlipFlop wearers' has got a 'spare'.... by buying a new arm[+ balljoint] and fitting the good one, left on the car, into the arm.  ..... so then, how much like an '80s Passat ball joint is this  THIS, however, looks pretty cool ..... anyone have access to an example, to confirm hole dia & length/hole pitch    TS
