They're a very good looking car, so whatever issues they might have are acceptable.

Also threadbare interiors and rust. Great cars though, they get better with mileage, too.

Needs a rear wheel bearing and a bulb or two for the MOT. 106000 miles and runs very well indeed.

That looks a tidy old thing. I think it's the 318is that the late P.Weasel extolled the praises of. Supposed to be quite a nice revvy unit :)

Everything seems to be totally standard, it even has its original BMW Business radio in the boot.

As long as it passes its MOT on Thursday I'll be a happy bunny.

Forgot to mention, the 1.9 is much better than the 1.8. ;)

That's quite a nice old thing, I'd forgotten what they look like without the 22" wheels and fender skirts.

M reg is a 1.8, the M42 with the old style alloy air flow meter. A bit of an old growler but brisk and good on fuel. The 1.9 was marginally better (plastic MAF, roller rockers) but they arrived early 1996 on the N plate. It's worth keeping the rear arches clean and looking after in general. A good car and much better then the E46.

Head gaskets can fail, but it's normally the head cracking - it's when they start up on three pots before latching onto No.4. Gearboxes seem to go on forever, the ZF250 - syncros tiring on mega milers like mine.

My gearbox seems a bit notchy, maybe it needs a new bush? It's not as slick and riflebolt-like as I'd hoped.

You can try dropping the oil and refilling with new Dexron. The 250 is a Getrag, not a ZF. The ZF box was the big bugger on 2.8's etc.

Got tons of E36 parts as well. I have two and broke 2 others for bits.
