Almost killed looking at shite

Went to have a look at a MkII Golf GTI today that I've been watching on ebay. It was in a slightly rural location, and my satnav couldn't find it, so I pulled into a long layby at the side of the main road. I pulled in behind a pug 306 and as I parked up an Audi A6 pulled in, facing the opposite way in front of the pug. I typed the lane name into the sat nav, stuck it back on the window and went to start to pull out, but noticed that the Audi was also about to pull away, so waited to let him go. He had it on full lock so was obviously going to do a full turn in the road.

 

He then pulled out, right across the middle of the road, just as another audi was approaching at about 50mph in the same direction he was facing (I presume it must have been in his blind spot, behind him). He then saw the approaching Audi at the last second and slammed on, completely blocking the road leaving this other audi with absolutely no where to go, so to avoid hitting him full on, he swerved into the layby, hitting Audi 1 on the rear quarter, then into the pug 306 on its offside front, and ended up in the grass at the side of the road. The 306 came to rest about 10mm off my front bumper. Luckily everyone was ok, including a cyclist that was about 2 cars lengths behind the approaching Audi when it swerved into the layby. Could have been so much worse!!

 

I've often been warned these old cars will kill me, I just didn't think it would be by laying a trap!

You may be right. I then went straight to look at this car, and to be honest may as well have been looking at a hat or an apple because I can remember frig all about it!! My mind wasn't exactly in the zone!

The A6 driver sounds like a careless knobhead, who added bonus fuggwittery to routine carelessness by freezing in place rather than yamming the hell out of the way when he realised that he had screwed the pooch. Your account of the accident is very clear, so hopefully it should help the owners of the Pug and the second Audi win the battle of the insurers.

PS: I am frequently almost killed after looking at/buying shite, but this only happens when I get home.

Sounds like it's the guy blocking the road at fault however it's often not as clean cut as that. A copper was telling me about an accident he attended. Car on a country road did a 3 point turn next to a hump back bridge. A car came over the bridge within the speed limit, T boned the car and killed the driver. He was found guilty of causing death through dangerous driving as you are meant to be able to stop within the distance you can see.
