Rover 220SLi back up for grabs for £100

I bought a 1994 Rover 220Sli for £100 from Mr_Bo11ox with MOT until Nov and in excellent running order. The draw back is a cracked windscreen and the car is a bit tatty. I have it taxed because I am using it, which can be bought for cash in value. Following my discussion to try and become the custodian of Mr Bs Fiat Argenta and the realisation I love trying different cars I am going to pass the Rover on as I am running out of parking but want something new.

The Moog has expressed an interest so I will give him a few days to see if his brother will help him get it as he is overseas at the moment or I will reoffer it.

Some of you may have seen I want a MG ZT-T, really for the autumn but will buy now if I find what I want.

I am not sure what to sell yet from my fleet so I will have a think about it and then post my ideas.

As I said I have given The Mood a few days to see if his brother will collect it for him, so I will let you know.

Great car this!!!! half of me wants to buy it back and pop the running gear in a decent 3-dr shell

I loved my 420 4 door. Plenty of grunt, enough to give a nasty surprise to quite a few of the boy racers in there honda civics around here.

Would love another but cant see it happening :-(

Today I noticed a drip of water from under the engine of the Rover and it looks like it is coming from the water pump. It is hard to be sure as the engine is dirty and it is cold and snowing today.

The Mood - I have sent you a pm.

Thanks, replied. Going to have to pass asi am not back for a few months yet and the thought of it sitting around with no coolant makes me shudder. Real shame as quite fancied a R8

6-Cyl - are you sure it's the water pump? I thouht Mr_B did that a couple years back.

Could it just have been melting slush thrown up from the road?

If you were closer, I'd happily mothball it for The Moog for a few months.

Must admit, I think the waterpump is one of the very few parts I didn’t change so it could be starting to leak now.

I am ok for storage (going to sling it up my mums drive) it is just the case that I won't be able to fix it until July and without coolant could lead the system rusting. Even thought about trying to get my mum to keep it topped up but that conversation didn't go well!

If you're not actually going to use it then surely you won't have to worry? If the engine isn't turning then neither will the water pump so I'd imagine it won't throw any water out.

Will is your mum local to me? If she is I am happy to do a temp fix if possible. Also I have some bits and pieces for Rovers but I don't think a decent water pump. Give me a shout if you like PM me if you need my number.

Thanks for the offer Simmons. Much appreciated, but Sadly I can't collect this now.

My sister who was to collect it has been talking to her car "experts" at work who have advised her that it will explode into a million pieces and kill lots of kittens as soon as she drives it anywhere so she is refusing to collect it. Probably before they climb into their Bini that is on finance... ,

So will have to leave it for now...

Come on Moog! Worries about a rusty coolant passage and unhelpful family members are elementary level 1 ‘shiter obstacles’ which can be overcome by straightforward obstinacy/ignorance or similar.

Following the news from the Mood I received saying he will not be able to take the Rover because his sister will not drive it with a leaky water pump, the Rover is up for grabs so “Station†as you were next to express interest would you like it when can you collect it? (I put a spare 5 LTR can of water in the car yesterday ready)

I will go and sit in the dunce corner! :(

Didn't want to mess Mr Cylinder around anymore. Being far away means that mega bus isn't an option ...

Don't worry Moog. I wouldn't fancy trying to sort logistical challenges like that out if I wasn't even in the country! I'm sure it'll find a home soon enough.

I will take it fo sho. Can you pm me details (ie address, etc).

Sounds like I'm aiming low but, 'I've always wanted one of these'.

ps, the leaking water pump will be down to the rubber o-ring which go hard and eventually leak. T-series did it and so do the k-series. K-series leaked on mine, my missus kept topping up with plain water. 2010 winter froze the coolant and cracked the block. :(

Strange with the water loss I have only caught it dripping twice once with the engine off and then with the engine on running. When I checked the water level after my weekend trip to Wales it had used about two pints and yesterday I drove it about 30 miles and again put 2 pints in it. It is now sitting around without leaking and I will use it again tomorrow for some local trips and see what happens.
