Chrysler Grand Voyager for sale - now very pissed off.

Ok, I bought this last August, mot'd it, then had serious problems with my left eye, so didn't start using it until the start of December.

It's a Chrysler Grand Voyager 3.3 V6 le. It's a high mileage bus, but you'd never know it, because it runs silent and drives superbly. Uses no oil or water and never gets hot in traffic. All the Yank toys you can imagine. So, it's mot'd until the 21st August and taxed until the end of May. Full grey leather interior. All tyres good.

The only real problem with it is the brake fluid level drops gradually. It still brakes fine. I'm buggered if I can find out where it's going. I suspect the n/s/rear wheel cylinder (drum brakes on rear).

The only other faults I can think of are: one of the rear vent windows doesn't open, probably a motor, 15 quid on ebay and easy to fit. The right indicator doesn't cancel. This only happened last week. It's got its marks and dinks around the body. Been there since I bought it and it doesn't bother me, so I've done nothing about it. Nice aftermarket cd/tuner fitted and sounds excellent with the Infinity Gold speakers.

I'm sure I've missed out loads of stuff, so if interested please ask.

Why am I selling? I don't like the colour - white. I'm a dark colour person.

I'm asking £400, which is pretty cheap when you check out other Grand Voyagers on Ebay, Auto Trader etc. No offers or swaps please, I've already got its replacement - a dark red Grand Voyager.

I was just about to mention you may be interested in this Mr. Ramrod ... V6, not low, not diesel, only 2 pedals.

:D:D Indeed! Thank you for the thought, but for a change I'm slightly ahead. It's entirely possible I might not be in the Peugeot at Arley Hall...

Well done Eddy, that looks cracking value. Remind me to buy more Shell shares

mr ramrod i have sat in the voyager and made broom broom noises whilst buying my previa from dave (tetleysmooth).

wasn't really paying attention due to my own impending purchase  , but it seemed quite presentable.

dave is also a very nice chap , was the most pleasant car acquisition experience i have had in a long time

Cheers Mel, that's reassuring. I remember you grabbing that Previa, it did seem a positive experience, from the postings. I fancied that too, but this is that crucial step closer to what I need, in fact it ticks every box on the page. 8)

There's a slight question of geography to overcome, but you know... where there's a will etc!

That's a lot of car for 400 quid. They are tremendous vehicles - I ran a previous generation 3.3L for 5 years and 80,000 miles - half of it on LPG. Fabulous, cheap, comfortable.

Thanks for that Mel. I'm still feeling quite guilty over the battery, mate.

I was absolutely convinced that battery would charge up and be fine, but I guess laying idle in that freezing weather killed it.

Well, would you believe it. The Grand Voyager must have overheard me talking about selling her.

The bloody thing started making a whining noise on the way to work last night. I'm pretty sure it's an idler pulley or drivebelt tensioner, but until I can get out there and delve, I don't know. Anything more serious and any interested parties will be informed.

By the way, these 3.3's are chain driven engines, so no timing belt to worry about.

The part to repair my dark red Grand Voyager arrived today :D

:D Precisely what I was thinking! Satnav is for Barryboys though, the really Shite way is an actual road atlas with paper pages, preferably a couple of years out of date!

Dave, I'll be watching with interest to see what this noise is.

There's a proper mechanic who lives a few doors away from me, so I may get his opinion on this bloody whining noise, if he's not too busy out fixing Pajero diesel pump seals - his speciality.

The car's been fine up to now. Always the way, innit.

I checked the autobox fluid level when I got to work last night. That seems fine. It certainly doesn't leak anything onto the floor.

Bonus in that the number plate sort of looks like it might be the name of an erectile disfunction cream.

R160 BAN? Surely more of a contraceptive cream?

It's not looking good fellas. The gearbox started messing about yesterday on the way to work, accompanied by the whining noise. I checked the level and it seemed abnormally high. It could possibly be the ATF cooler in the radiator has corroded and is letting water into the ATF, apparently quite common in these motors. If this is the case it could be a reasonably easy fix. If it's more serious, the car will be cubed.

That's very discouraging news. :( Thanks for the text by the way Dave; I was on the road so there wasn't much I could do. I'm sorry this has happened, I really fancied this bus. Good luck, however that has to be interpreted in the end.

Gearboxes on these things really are shit, so I wouldn't be surprised.

On the positive, I scrapped my 2 litre Voyager a month back and it weighed in at £240. It wasn't even the Grand, and yours has got the heavier engine too. Kept the wheels as they're bound to jazz up some low life's pov spec Voyager, that leather interior is bound to sell as well - so you're close to getting you're asking price even if it is terminal ;)

I'm just glad this happened before I sold it. Would never have forgiven myself if someone had bought it, had it a couple of weeks, then this happened.

Bit gutted as well though, it was such a nice driver.

I certainly won't be breaking it myself though. I don't have the time, room or inclination.

I'm working again Saturday night, but then got a couple of days off, so I'll be investigating.

Hopefully it'll be the ATF cooler tank in the rad, there might be some hope for it then.

All this happened very suddenly, so it could be water contamination.

This has given me a bit of heart.

This is the noise mine is making, only not quite so loud.

Read all the comments, a fluid and filter change may help it. Worth a try :|

That's an awful noise! Let's hope a fluid-and-filter change will cure it. Fingers crossed!

These auto transmissions are a bit on the weak side - and the greatest damage is usually caused by heat making the seals go hard (and then leak internally). Problems can be caused by the use of the wrong fluid and also by clogged filters.

A fluid and filter change is easy and (in the longer term) fitting an external transmission cooler can do wonders for extending its life.

When I had mine I got loads of help from: http://www.allpar.com/ and its tech forum at: http://www.allpar.com/forums/forum/33-g ... port-help/

Righto. This bus is still sitting in my front garden. I'm using its relacement now.

I've bought the filter, but no fluid as yet.

With the ongoing cold weather and pressures of work, it looks like this is not going to get done by me.

Anyone fancy taking it on?

I haven't laid a spanner on it since I parked it up.

A good 'box service may cure it, but obviously there's no guarantee given.

It will have to be transported away to ensure no further damage to the 'box.

I have the number of a decent chap with a transporter man enough for the job.

How does 300 quid - ish sound?

Sounds almost viable Dave, but unfortunately, viable only for someone much nearer to you geographically. I'm going to have to declare myself out of this one. Best of luck though!
