Hi all. As you probably know last month i got a old P-plate Vectra off my pals Mum and Dad. Now the thing is it's started to creak VERY loudly from the rear spring area my pal who's parents i got it off say's the springs are probably "dry" and just need some oil on them as iv'e done more miles in a month than his parents did in a few years.lol. What do you think? If they do just need oiling how do i do this? Cheers guys. Charlie.

My suggestion is to actually have a look believe it or not. ideally get the arse end up on a couple of ramps and lie underneath while a mate rocks the car and see where the noise is coming from. 'springs need oiling' is nonsense and has been since about 1930 when springs became lubrication-free. Itll most likely be a knackered suspension bush somewhere.

I'd never heard The term "dry" (well not unless we are talking about my wife's claphammer.lol) springs. Gonna get underneath (the car not the miss's) and have a butchers this morning.

100% definitely the upper and lower rose joints, located at the end of the control arms. 2 each side. You won't see it nor will you likely feel any significant play. Mine went through the MOT like this for years before I sorted it.

Tip, if you borrow the special tool that you will need for this to press the bushes in and out, don't just keep winding it as they will probs be seized solid and you'll just bust the tool. Instead, wind it up a not, then back off a bit, then repeat, with gallons of WD40.

My Vectra got so bad in this area it started making a loud ding every time you put a load on the suspension.

+1. Alternatively, sell the Vectra and replace it with a Cavalier
