warren t claim Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 I've got one of these desirable 4x4 beauties may be heading my way soon. It's a 2000 MY on a V plate and is the petrol model. Any known faults on these and any idea on what'd be a decent price to pay for it? Much thanks in advance.
Cavcraft Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 They're pretty thirsty and desperately dull. Not too bad a drive to be fair but one of those cars you could a 7,000 mile journey in, get out and completely forget what you'd just driven.
warren t claim Posted February 3, 2013 Author Posted February 3, 2013 Looking at the ads online for them I'd say between £450-850 seems to be the general price range. I might ring around my exporters and see if I can get it underwritten for a quick £100 profit cos I don't fancy having a thirsty 4x4 hanging around too long.
Barry Cade Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 When I worked in the Kia/Rocsta/Rover dealership in Dingwall, we changed a few rear diffs under warranty, I also remember the plugs were a pain in the arse to change but otherwise Ok. Karmann edition was nice though. Fairly nippy as well.
Rocket88 Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 As Sir Tiff says, back axles are a known nasty.
kinkersaab Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Other than the low front wishbones they are quite capable off road. LSD As standard I think. Drifting fun. as others have said a wee bit thirsty and ever so dull. Gotta be cheap. Mazda engine?
peter9000uk Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 lway remember towing one of these out of a muddy field in my 5 series estate after it got stuck
trigger Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 My dad bought one of these for a £100 last year after the last owner bought it over for Jersey and then couldn't get it started. Turned out the battery in the key had gone flat and upset the alarm, he fitted a new battery and it fired straight up after being sat under a tree for 18 months, saying that it's been sat in my dad's garden a year now whilst he fannys about deciding what to do about registering it for the UK, it's still only done 45k. 1999 Kia Sportage 2.0 by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr
seacow Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 My brother has one of these on a P plate - he has had it a few years now but gave something daft like 1500 quid. Its OK and has running boards etc etc but I would have chosen something different. Its been a money pit since but he cant see sense - just gets used for launching a speed boat about once every 2 years!!!
