Moose OMGHGF KAOS? Or something else?

Moose, as some of you will know is my beloved 1999 Volvo V40 T4, 1855(?)cc Turbo 197bhp.

Minor mishap over Chrimbo whereupon the jubilee clip on the bottom hose snapped, thus meaning she was run for a short period without water.

EML came on, diagnosed as O2 sensor, by AA dude, (called out for battery PHAIL two days after) but he couldn't reset it. However, it has since gone out by itself.

However, she still appears to be losing coolant.

I've checked all the accessible clips, and left her running for about 90 minutes, with a flattened cardboard box underneath, nothing drips/squirts, or looks damp.

The coolant level drops a couple of inches - ie goes from max to min - in a couple of days, did a longish journey last night, and it had dropped from full/max to about midway today.

The coolant soesn't seem to be oily, but the oil filler cap has a small amount of mayo-type gunk inside it.

She's still running fine, no problems there, but having had a look on the VOC forum thing, it looks like this could cost me ££££.

So, what do we reckon?

Is it HGF, early stages, and what is K-seal, will it work, and what do i do with it, into the oil or water? (I R STOOPID)

Obviously it'll start suffering soon if i don't fix it, but how long have i got?

Sorry for appearing an idiot, hope someone can help!!

The mayo on the oil cap will probs just be condensation mixing with the oil in the cold weather. My corsa does this and so does our new Chevy.

If its starting/running well, doesnt produce excessive white smoke from the exhaust and keeps a steady running temp, then I bet your HG is fine.

Somehning to try, leave the cardboard underneath overnight. If a waterpumo is on its way out, sometimes it can only leak as it cools and contracts.

What about the heater valve, or a pinhole in the middle of the radiator?
