Calling all spanner monkeys. Has anyone tried or have these?

With the recent pipe bursting incident on my BX, it has become rather obvious that I really need something to get the car higher to work on. I can be a bit of a shit bag when it comes to lying under a car on axle stands. I could have got the car high enough on the stands to work, but it would be a bit shoogly.

So, that's where these babies come in http://www.cjautosheywood.co.uk/adjramp.shtml Look more stable than axle stands & lift higher than drive on ramps. Price is a bit salty, but could hold out for s/h ones if they pop up on the bay.

Anyone got / tried them?

They look good, but I'm sure you could make some with an existing metal ramp and couple of caravan legs.

The management cannot accept responsibility for the inevitable accident :D

I'm sure it's dooable to make one, but I'm no fabricator. Maybe a wee challenge to someone out there?

On reading the online reviews on these, they seem to be the dogs bollocks & very heavy / well built.

Must say they look really handy... Cavalier front bumper catches my ramps (Grandad bought them when he had an A40!) and I have to arrange bricks/logs of wood in the right place to get it up smoothly...

£350 is a bit dear for my liking though... I'll stick with the bricks.

When I've had low cars before, I use a trolley jack to get the car onto axle stands, doesn't sound like this fiendish ramp would be much quicker, plus with a trolley jack you don't have that faffing about trying to line the car up with the ramps and slipping the clutch driving it up.

Those ramps look very handy right up to when you want the wheels off, so maybe not much use for anything more than oil changing, if the trolley jack and axle stands hadn't been invented they could be worth having, at that kind of price you may as well get a tilter.

NO, NO, NO.....I had a similar design set of these in about 1980 bought from Halfords (because it was good then). They are hard work, because the screw wears out fast, you will need arms the size of Zeus and DO NOT>>>>DO NOT use them on any surface less level than a snooker table.

A decent trolley jack and axle stands is the future, is safer and more versitile and last a damned sight longer.

Words of wisdom........been there.........done that.

Edited......forgot to add, ONE trolley jack......TWO pairs of axle stands, ===whole car off the deck.........nuff said.

Cheers guys. I was looking at these for jobs I need to get right under the car & don't need the wheels off such as replacing the pipes at the front subframe.

Apparently these are way batter than the 1980's versions, but point taken on the leadscrew. Also, my work area is level, but cobbled so I always put a bit of ply under the axle stands.
