Conrad D. Conelrad Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 catalogues That 'fun' graphic is the most 90s thing ever. A better name would be 'Tetris Explosion'.
triumph1300 Posted March 18, 2013 Author Posted March 18, 2013 Haha you got that right. It really is horrendously brilliant, if I could ever get hold of one, then it would go on my car. BACK TO THE 90's YO!
retrogeezer Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 One of the very few cars 3 spoke wheels work on....good stuff.
triumph1300 Posted March 19, 2013 Author Posted March 19, 2013 So today I bit the bullet and sorted the rust at the bottom corners of the screen, treated the areas heavily, painted with zinc rich primer then top coated with orange temporarily until the car gets fully painted. All rot ground out and holes filled. Work in progress.. More pics this coming week, new tailgate and wheels being collected on the weekend. About a 400 mile round trip as collecting other bits and bobs too. Nice.
Shep Shepherd Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 ^My 1.1LX was rusty in the same places at ten years old - a new seal and a liberal application of grease sorted it
triumph1300 Posted March 19, 2013 Author Posted March 19, 2013 I'm not sure why it is such a common place? Design flaw perhaps?
Ben_L Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 Mother_L had one on an "M" plate in LX trim, in a very very dark grey/black colour. Was 5 years old when we got it and below the rear bumper, below the front bumper, both rear wheel arches and the windscreen were rusting. It had a new engine at 99,000 miles changed for a proven 102,000 miler... That blew up by 122,000 miles. We gave up and binned it at 9 years old for £40 to a man down the pub. Was well specc'd for an LX 1.1... Twin Airbags, Sunroof, Heated front screen, Push-button boot release, Electric windows and central dead locking... Oh, and ABS. Real shame that, but the 1.1 engine must've just been a pile of shite. Was one of the SPi engines, 1119cc I think. It just hated being driven... Looked good until the rust settled in though!!!! (about 3 weeks after we got it!)
triumph1300 Posted March 20, 2013 Author Posted March 20, 2013 I'm happy now, paintwork done, screen back in and sealed and all tested with a hose on full bore. Dry as a bone now so I can finally re-fit my dry carpets and have a slightly quieter car! Screen went in surprisingly very easier considering I've never done one before. Happydays
triumph1300 Posted March 21, 2013 Author Posted March 21, 2013 After running around for a couple of months with no carpet and fishpond footwells, today was my chance of refitting the lot. Ahh now that's better. New tailgate being collected Saturday, along with the new wheels Getting somewhere at last.
Split_Pin Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 I'm very much enjoying this thread, great work on your Fiesta. I like the route you are taking with it. When my friends and I were all 17 we passed our tests at roughly the same time and everyone's mums had MK3 Fiestas which we all drove around in. Incredibly tough cars I can vouch, even if they were all getting a bit scabby by the late 90s! Most were 4 speed manual choke kind but my friend Craig's mum had a later Spi model which sounded so quiet and refined at the time! Great days.
triumph1300 Posted March 21, 2013 Author Posted March 21, 2013 I really don't like the injection HCS engines, for 2 reasons. Firstly they seem strangled and a bit choked on power, secondly, none of them are old enough yet to get on classic insurance, that's the main reason I bought my one, 24 years old now!
triumph1300 Posted March 22, 2013 Author Posted March 22, 2013 Had a mate come over today for new pads and replacement caliper so snapped a couple of bonus dual fiesta shite pics. (That is him in the pics) and he is changing them wheels to 13" white wellers, I think the wheels on it are too big...
Pillock Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 I once moved into a rented house that was completely and utterly bare apart from a set of 4 Fiesta RS Turbo 3 spokes in the cupboard in the hallway. I also have fond memories of bombing round in an ex's mum's 1.8D Mk3, we took it everywhere (and I took her a couple of places in it too).
triumph1300 Posted March 24, 2013 Author Posted March 24, 2013 Its my taxidermy mascot. Why? Why not...?I like strange things is all I can think of.

triumph1300 Posted March 24, 2013 Author Posted March 24, 2013 Anyway, I now have the wheels and tailgate in my possession after a tiring roadtrip. It started like this:After waking from my slumber, I dragged myself and the misses out of our pit at 8, went into my sons room and he was already awake telling me its snowing?! Wtf, not good to be told that when I have near on 400 miles to drive.Opened up the front door and was greeted to this: Oh well, needs must and all that so we got ready and left at 9. Following a bland McDonald's breakfast wrap we was on our way to the first pick up on the Isle of Sheppey, for those who have never been, don't ever go (although there is PLENTY of old shite sitting on driveways).Opposite my collection point was this road which made me chuckle like a school boy: I wouldn't mind McDonald's if that's what they sold. After leaving sheppy we made our way to Dagenham to drop my son off (begrudgingly to his biological dad) Only was is Essex innit: From there I picked up another eBay purchase luckily 2 minutes away of a wool and cashmere crombie overcoat. Bargain, £300 coat for £10. Next leg was Dagenham to Buckingham. What a lovely place! Here I collected the wheels (no pics) and they were better than in the pictures. Wheels, few weeks old tyres, wheel nuts, all for £43. BARGIN! Next section was Buckingham to Feltham in Middlesex to pick up my tailgate. Again, better than the pics and for £20 was a steal. Only problem was to fit it in the car meant sliding my seat all the way forward, so I drove back from Feltham to Herne bay like a twat. The whole journey the misses complained about being so tired and that she couldn't sleep in a car no matter how hard she tried.....so I reclined her seat and 5 mins later....hmmmm women. Also spotted this bonus shite on the m25: Luckily the weather was fine and there was zero traffic, it took exactly 8 hours to do so treated myself to a well earned Smirnoff when I got back. The car never missed a beat and done 70 pretty much all the way. One thing I want for the car is a set of Serck style number plates, mine are naff and I think they will be a nice touch:

Split_Pin Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 Top bombing there. Serck plates would indeed make the car.

triumph1300 Posted March 25, 2013 Author Posted March 25, 2013 After braving the face numbing cold today, I fitted the wheels and tailgate. I love em! I cannot wait for some better weather so I can lay some paint down on it as it really lets the car down.
