I need to re-tax my MX5 which has been off the road with a battery issue since I bought it. However, with December over half done and xmas coming up, when is the earliest I can go to the post office and buy tax which starts Jan 1st?

If its not currently taxed i believe you cant tax it until the 1st of the month.

Try 28/29th for the new tax disc to start January 1st. Really it all depends on the person serving you behind the counter. The new tax discs will have been in stock and getting handed out now since the start opf the month. What you must remember is that nobody really gives a toss, you may even get it earlier. I'm a trader and my mother was my local post mistress with the tax discs......but be aware, there is a definitive change-over date which the staff should adhere to.

You can usually get it two days before. I taxed my Saab that's been off the road since 2007 on Nov 29th and was given the disc to start dec 1st with no problems or questions asked.

I'd rather die than queue up at the bloody Post Office.

I have the V5C and I can order road tax online - I'll keep checking and order as soon as it lets me.

Thanks for your thoughts.
